Re: Random playlist rules for genres

You have a lot of genres. You could add "macro" genres to your genre classification, so that all your blues albums appear under "blues" as well as their "micro" genre, and all your "pop" albums are defined like that in addition to their more specific designation. Of course, that means editing tags f...

Re: Horrible problems

I'm experiencing the same problem. Is there a way to know which specific files were not imported because they "did not match the import criteria"? Not as such, apparently (perhaps it would be useful to have a "click here to review" button that would display all files scanned and indicate whether im...

Re: Getting confused on this !

It's a month ago so the thought process has gone stale. Looking back, I see I was asking where your MM.DB file was stored.

Re: Fix this please

This looks similar to what was happening when I had my MM db installed in my NAS.

So I guess the question is, how have you got MM set up?

Re: Upgrading to 4.0.6 Lost all my settings

When I upgraded, I was installing the new version on a PC and a laptop, plus portably onto an external drive and a NAS. I found that once installed, and MM was open, it wouldn't have my previous skins etc. I just had to shut MM down and open it back up in order for it to pick up those previous setti...

That is exactly what UpnP (called Media sharing in MM) is for.
Well, yes.

Now I've got my set up stabilised I shall be experimenting more with upnp.

Re: Network DB extremely slow

Thinking about it, would it be possible to bung the MM database on a USB stick or an SD card or something, and use that in order to maintain just one copy of the db file? (Obviously you'd want to backup frequently). Or, indeed, could you create a portable installation of MM on a moveable memory devi...

Re: Network DB extremely slow

Sure, we definitely try to please our users, even though it's sometimes hard as people have different requirements. As for MM4 - it added a lot of new features and also is faster than MM3 - when the DB is installed locally. While the networked DB is still supported, we can't guarantee the same perf...

Re: Recently added files option in media tree?

Lowlander's solution is the best one, it will give you playlists of files added by date.

I also have an autoplaylist which picks up all tracks added in the last 30 days. Very easy.

Re: Replace a song with a dummy file?

In fact, by this method you don't even need playlists. You could just search your library for "Oct1978" and retrieve everything in the top 40 that month. I guess there would be some extra work in adding the information to a field, but you could add a month/year to a group of files as a batch easily ...

Re: Replace a song with a dummy file?

When you say you "have monthly top 40 hits" , what do you mean exactly? You're downloading/importing the top 40 every month, as a kind of job lot? Is there a way of being more selective when you do that? And then, assuming you've avoided importing duplicates, or have deleted them once imported, I th...

Re: Replace a song with a dummy file?

I don't know of any way to more easily achieve the effect you want, but I like the ingenuity you've displayed already! But I wonder... aren't you making more work for yourself? Is your ingenuity really necessary? Storage is cheap, so there is no compelling urgency to reduce the amount of space your ...

Re: 320 or FLAC?

I suppose some experienced or trained listeners might be able to hear a difference, but most people can't. Anyone who thinks they can hear a difference should try a blind test, where you don't know the source of what you're hearing. Get someone to play you FLAC and MP3 versions of the same music and...

Re: Slow Network Library Import

Obviously a great deal depends on the technology being used. I'm currently using SyncToy to copy 30K+ mainly mp3 files (but FLACs too) from a NAS to an external hard drive (wireless to Vista laptop, USB to drive). I'm going to be at it for most of the week, running for an hour or so in the mornings ...
