never mind. i did a rebuild of the full-text search index and a complete optimization. that seems to have fixed things.

occasionally, the genre dropdown list will contain misspelled or corrupted data, and i have yet to find a way to remove that data, even after correcting the misspelling. having said that, with 20k+ songs, it's probably difficult at best to ascertain if that corruption/misspelling is hiding somewhere...

one of the multi-item data fields, <Artist>, contains "NPR: Morning Edition" as a dropdown item. this data can be found in <Album>, but not in <Artist>. is there a way to remove this specific item from the dropdown list? i know what its ID is (i regularly download the XML and HTML reports)...

is there a way to not only port/copy metadata (added dates, genre, title, etc), but also INCREMENT the play stats and dates? i currently have 240 files (120 originals, 120 dupes) where most have play stats/dates. it would be nice to be able to say "i'm keeping this one because it has an earlier...

for what it's worth, i'm having the same problem with another USB drive, a new 64-gig Sandisk Cruzer. in my case, though, MM sees the drive letter correctly, but says (in tools/options/ portable audio devices / h:\ (location of device) / configure) "this device is not connected". explorer ...

FYI -- changing compat mode for MM to xp sp3 does not make the problem go away, but it DOES change which screens will absolutely display the problem -- i can now get three file property tabs at once (basic, details, classification) without trying hard...

you are definitely on the right track - it worked perfectly to add AND remove. until your fix is made, i will simply try to remember to change the shortdate back and forth...
