Upon further experimentation - this only happens on autoplaylists from a database saved with MediaMonkey 4.
A new playlist made in MM5 does not have this problem. So there is something in imported playlists that isn't recognized properly.

Given that I have a lot of playlists, I had hoped to not have to redo all of them.

Yes, that's where I've been changing it.
When I change the sort by in playlist editor, it does not reflect in the playlist, even after leaving the playlist and coming back, or even closing the whole program. When I go back in the playlist sorts itself by number, but the edit playlist still shows that it should sort by 'Group'

Did you change the sort order in the AutoPlaylist settings: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... toPlaylist Sorting the list manually doesn't change the sort order on an AutoPlaylist, just at the moment you're viewing it.

When I select my autoplaylist, it is sorted by '#'.
I open the autoplaylist edit, and the sorting changes, but I don't know what it is sorting by.
I have set it to sort by 'Grouping' but it does not do so.
When I go to another playlist and back, it resorts by '#'.
Since this is an autoplaylist, the order added is not under my control, and so I do not want to sort by it.
I have also tried sorting through the column chooser with the same results.
