It also helps you when searching for something to play, you sort your search results or all tracks by rating, and then pick from the top rated tracks to play.
You can look at an artist, and determine if you like most of their work or only a few of their one hit wonders.
You can look through your as yet unrated songs, and play them to see where they fit. New tracks are unrated until you do this.
You can review your top-rated tracks and see if you still like them all, conversely for those with a low rating.
Auto-playlists as mentioned above, I have one for everything 4 star plus, and often play from those.
