[REQ] Audiobookview: Change floating shuffle button to play button

by drunknmonkey » Tue Aug 08, 2023 2:05 am

MMA 2.0.0.1099

Hey,
If I want to continue listening an audiobook, I open the Audiobookview, select the author and book. Then I have to scroll down the list to the position where I stopped last time.

The new floating shufflebutton seems quite useless to me in the audiobook view. Why would somebody shuffle an audiobook?

So I'd like to request to change the floating shufflebutton to a floating play from current position button only in the audiobook view.

I would be happy with a simple on/off toggle in Options>UI, this way no room is take up in the action bar etc.

I agree that it'd be a good idea to either allow the button to be customized or hidden

The challenge is that there are a limited number of slots in the top action bar so if we remove the floating 'play shuffled' button entirely, it either won't fit in the action bar or some other command would have to be eliminated.

For those like me, the shuffle button is a great function.

With nearly 16000 tracks I use it very often. Not for listening to a whole album (like new albums or 'classic' music of Mike Oldfield).

But on holiday I can use it like a radio station and can surprise myself with good music. :D

The only problem with the button is the limit of function and/or customising (like positioning).

regarding the floating button:
does it have only this one function?
Does long-pressing do something different than single tap?

I never play my music Shuffled. Ever.
Can you add displaying it optional?

dkstott,

Hopefully lowlander's comment clarified the situation for you. i.e. as in the past MMA has:
- a 'Play shuffled' function that adds whatever is in the view or whatever is selected to the queue in random order and plays it. The only difference in the latest build is that the button was changed to a 'floating action button'
- a 'Shuffle mode' that can be enabled in the 'Playing' view, that causes tracks in the queue to be selected randomly for playback

To add to this, we hope in the future to rationalize this somewhat duplicative functionality as the differences between the two methods of shuffling are kind of confusing. The first such implementation will be in MMW 5.1.

Yes I know. But with graphics, MMA is still at the beginning.

It's the accent color of your MMA Theme. (I am still waiting for an AMOLED Black with blue.)

Well I don't like that button too. I see no better reason for that.

There are so many things to do with graphics in MMA2 so it was a minor thing to me. It would be great when the user could decide where to put the button by click and hold and move where I want it.

Also another colour as the same orange would be great (maybe green or a colour table for self choice).

As others have said, it's been moved to the floating "shuffle" button at the bottom.

My guess, as a user, is that this was done to conform to the design philosophy of Android; many applications have that floating button for a primary function. Forex, my mail client has it as a "new email", Google Calendar has it as an expanding "new event", Google Messages "New message", etc.

I'm not fond of that, but I accept the decision to conform to the current design standard.

Yes, they're two separate ways to play files in Shuffled fashion. 1 as discussed here, you can add files in a random order to the Playing Queue. 2 you can enable Shuffle mode on the Player. Click on the Player and Playing should open. This will have a Shuffle button at the left bottom.

With 1 you get random play, but will know what will be played as you can play the Playing Queue in order (as the files have been randomized). With Shuffle on the Player it will randomly pick a file from the Playing Queue (ie. you don't know which file will play next, but it doesn't matter how files have been added to the Playing Queue).

Lowlander, you really ought to read the comments from your fellow experts and corroborate a definitive answer towards shuffling entire genre's.

Here's what Martin Bohac has to say about the new floating button;

"The "Shuffle All" action has been moved to the floating button only.
The behavior is the same as in previous versions, so all tracks related to the current view are shuffled and played.
Newly, the "Shuffle All" action is also supported in contextual mode (long click on an item and select at least two items to be shuffled)."

But you seem to think that it has a different effect ;
"It doesn't engage Shuffle, it adds files in random order to the Playing Queue. Shuffle itself can be engaged on the Player."

If you truly think shuffle itself can be engaged on the player, please show me how and where on build 1091

It doesn't engage Shuffle, it adds files in random order to the Playing Queue. Shuffle itself can be engaged on the Player.

After pressing the floating button. My preference is that MMA acknowledge shuffle engaged or something similar.

The message "Tracks added to the queue" is misleading/ confusing.
