So, what are those standards and "how" should things be separated?
Again, I used to have a single date showing in all my files and programs, now there's a double-date with slashes between after using Media Monkey to try and update "Lyrics" only, and yet my other tags are also changed. This is just "one" of those changes MediaMonkey did that I tried to tell it NOT to do, that I need to fix, so I need to know "what" I need to actually do?
Is there supposed to be double/dates with slashes? Cause MediaMonkey did that, as well did the same to many Genre tags, which the slashes only show in Mp3tag.
Hi leeuniverse,
a couple of thoughts
1) What is your main music client? ie is it MediaMonkey, or something else?
Does this tag duplication show in whatever that tool is? ... or can you only see it in a low level nuts&bolts tool like mp3Tag?
If the "damage" is not visible in your music client(s), do you really care?
From the little I understand, under the covers, the tagging ecosystem is an incrementally evolved mess and MediaMonkey does the best that it can with it.
Maybe it is like a sausage ... it is best you don't know what is in there, and what it looked like as it was being made.

Every format is different and has different way of storing multiple values of the same kind. E.g. ID3v2.4 in MP3 stores multiple values always as values separated by zero byte. And it is not possible to use different separator, as it would be against standard and other software would have problems with correct parsing of the data, we would create non-valid files. Also storing user defined separator to file and then changing user defined separator would cause, that previously written data would not be read correctly as separate values..
MM has a tag named YEAR that you can see in a few places. From what I understand it is just the 1st four characters of whatever crud there is in the DATE tag.
2) MM5 did have a bug.
It is fixed, but not yet released. Maybe you were affected by that.
3) But generally this is not an issue that is new to MM5. See
this thread fron ten+ years ago.
nb. it points to a Knowledgebase topic which has been lost, but I think that is
here..
That gives you enough of a clue as how to fix the issue, if in fact it does need fixing?
LowLander, the contents at that link are not very helpful.
Can't it have a preamble to explain the situation, the terms, and background.
And can't the contents be explained better. It reads as daunting techno-babble.
See that its User rating is 2:1 thumbs down ATM for that page ... That's generous IMO.

1) There is this bug fixed in build 2507: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=100193&hilit=mp3+separator otherwise, MediaMonkey follows the ID3 standards for tagging.

Yes, you were provided with a link already on how to change this: https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/knowledge-base/mediamonkey-tagging-organizing/how-to-configure-which-id3-tags-are-used-for-year-date/
