I was a bit slow on the uptake earlier, because I was still on v4 which didn't have the options you were talking about. I'm now on v5 (which is a bit of a culture shock, but I'm sure I'll get used to it) and, as suggested, have selected Files to edit\DB tags mismatches. It's been running all afternoon (now on 5797 mismatches and still going strong), and I have a couple of queries: some of the files have a field marked in orange which must be the mismatched field - is there a way to see what the mismatch is, i.e. what does the tag say that is different to the library. More worryingly, the vast majority of the files have no field highlighted in orange - again can I tell in what way this file is mismatched.

Brilliant - the "updating tags when editing properties" was unticked. Ticking it made Media Monkey behave as I expected.
Now for the tough bit: I've been and changed loads of things across vast numbers of albums, is there a way to persuade Media Monkey to save all of the changes to the files' metadata? If not is there a way to tell Media Monkey to update itself from the files (i guess just (!) delete the library and restore? ... gulp)

Which file type(s) are affected?

I've just tried again, not changing the location. I've changed the track name and the track number. Then I've gone to windows explorer and looked at the file's metadata - it is unchanged. I'm 98% sure that Media Monkey has write permission - to be sure I auto changed the file name (Ctrl-R) and that worked fine - the file name reflects the changes made in Media Monkey (track name and #) but the file's metadata is still unchanged.
Do I need to tell Media Monkey to write it's changes to the disc?

Yes, Auto-Organize Files can change the folder/filenames. If this isn't happening make sure that the New Path shown in Auto-Organize Files is what you want it to be changed to and that MediaMonkey has rights to modify the files from Windows.

Hi there, I've been reorganising some tracks and changing the track number for a couple of albums. This all seems fine in Media Monkey to such an extent that I can Ctrl-R and change the file name based on the new track#. However when I look at the files in Windows it still has the old track#. Worse, if I copy the files to a new location then add them to Media Monkey via Ins then the old track# are still there.
Am I missing something - I have a feeling that I'm doing something really stupid!!
