Hi Guys,
Thank you
OK I am thick. This whole issue has confused and confounded me. I have found that a Media Streamer, Media Renderer and today a Media Player are all used interchangeably and in the case of Linn and Bricasti M5 Network player can cost far more than car I am driving.
I have flac files on an HDD. I have Media Monkey – that I love.
MM plays the music, sending it down a USB cable to a Digital Audio Interface. (Or as I have found can cast/play/send to a DLNA empowered device (TV, Up2Streamer Pro V3)
The Digital Audio interface has lots of outputs (SPDIF, AES, Toshlink, I2S) this is connected to a DAC. DAC converts the digital to analogue and puts it into my amp. All quite simple.
This is what I think I want…. I am told that the PC makes a mess of the music. I am told USB is not the best way. The professional audio people are sending all their digital music via ethernet. The say ethernet is good, Wi-fi is not so good, but USB is bad.
I have lots of windows PC’s ethernet switches, hubs. But I hate the Raspberry Pi and the smart phone (Samsung Galaxy S6) I use to make phone calls.
Please make it simple for me, I am a dummy from the bush in Au.
1. How hard is it to get the digital music out of the PC without the PC changing it?
2. How do we send it down an ethernet cable? (We could say Wi-Fi but let us stay with wires – I am an idiot remember).
3. What happens at the end of the ethernet cable?
4. Do I connect this to my PC-Spare or something magical that has many names?
5. How do I make my PC-Spare DLNA empowered or endowed? If this is what is needed.
6. Something connects to my Digital Audio Interface as neither the Digital Audio Interface nor my DAC has an ethernet (RJ-45) socket.
It must be super hard as I have spent far too long and getting far too confused.
I bought a device called a Up2Streamer Pro V3, that seems to look (well the boards do) the same as a lot of things called different things that takes the digital (wi-fi and ethernet) and makes it playable. They can be expensive, or in the case of the Up2Streamer, have a crappy DAC and average amp and send the digital signal out at 16bit-441.kHz.
Is there a simple and cheap solution? I did get my spare PC working. Unfortunately, the one I wanted to use (it is good) just wanted to cycle on and off.
(PS - I do like Peke's suggestions, but I do not understand, nor do I understand how they will be enacted).
