So is the point to not really tag your media files directly but to "pseudo-tag" them instead with an m-Tag/JSON?
That way you can keep your files clean but also bring up metadata to be read, regardless of the
media environment/player you are in?

You periodically or daily synch tags and backup the database for that.

You can backup the database to keep your metadata safe.

I'd presume anyone could script this.

Seperation of Media and Metadata

I have been using foobar2000 very heavily lately mostly because of this addon.
http://m-tags.org/index.html
It allows one to seperate media and metadata using json files to define the metadata. My biggest issues with the system on foobar is that it doesn't allow organization of files based on the tags. Though I can only imagine how powerful it would be in mediamonkey seeing as there is video integration it would allow one to tag videos unlike normal. And the tags would be presistant if something was to happen to you mediamonkey installation. The biggest issue with this format is I believe lack of people knowing about it. Hopefully you will take my suggestion having something like this integrated into a mainstream player such as mediamonkey might give the format the legs to get started.
