Yes mine was for newly added songs didnt think you were trying to find them all for first time at it, to fix error of not adding the mark in custom field when first added in mm.

But now you can make auto list too, 8)

Or use advanced search and just do it all in one list

Uncheck all options except for title

"&" in quick search bar

Alternatively:
Advanced search (magnifying glass next to search bar)
Advanced tab
Title contains &

Both work fine in MM 4.0.7
This is excellent. It gets me where I need to be. Thanks, nohitter.

Searching for & the way you suggested first worked. That gave me 878 tracks. I wanted to search for tracks that either included "&" or the word "and". Using & OR "and" didn't work. That only gave me 17 tracks, and I'm not quite sure how it selected the 17 tracks it returned to me. If I take off the quotes, giving & OR and , that only returned 15 tracks. Weird since you would think "and" is more selective than just and . :-?

Anyway, I can create a playlist of the 878 "&" tracks and then add to it the 4344 tracks that a separate search for just the word "and" gives, access the playlist, sort as desired, and I'm in business. Much better than exporting a list of 150,000 titles to another app. Thank you for the help.

That would be a good idea for new tracks I add. However, I already have unknown hundreds of tracks that have "&" in the title. I would like to be able to find those en masse. If I understand correctly, your suggestion requires that I already know what I am trying to find out, in order to populate a custom field for just those tracks that I want to locate. Kind of a chicken-and-egg thing, right?

I'm beginning to think that I will have to export a list of my track titles and then use some other tool, e.g., a text editor, to locate what I want. That will be tedious as I will then have to go back to MM and pull them up one-by-one manually. I was hoping for something more efficient.

How can I search for an ampersand as a word?

by JoePublic » Tue Nov 06, 2012 1:18 am

I searched the forum and did not see this question asked or addressed. Is there any way to treat the ampersand as a word and search for it?

For example, I have the song Jack & Diane by John (Cougar) Mellencamp. I would like to find that song and any others that have the & in the title. None of these search entries does anything:
title:&
title"&"
title:" & "

I discovered that if my search term is title:"& D" , MM displays a song called "L.T.D. (Life, Truth & Death)" by the Jimmy Castor Bunch, but not Jack & Diane. I'm guessing the search ignores the & and finds the track based on the "D" as a stand-alone "word" from "L.T.D." in the title.

Obviously, I can find Jack & Diane by searching for "Jack Diane". But I would like to be able to find all of my songs that use the ampersand instead of the word "and". My end goal is to search for title:"&" OR title:"and" and examine the result, looking for duplicates in my 150,000 track database.

By the way, I'm using MM 3.2.5.1306. Thanks in advance for any help.
