Format conversions are VERY slow or don't work at all.

This forum is for reporting bugs in MediaMonkey for Windows 4. Note that version 4 is no longer actively maintained as it has been replaced by version 5.

Converting one format to another is VERY slow.

When doing a Send to (Rip/Convert) it simply doesn't do anything.....sits at the first file.

Yes no change in RC1. I am using WMA files all round.

But in RC1 at leats it does rip and convert (Send to). Just deathly slow!

Please describe exactly which conversions are going slowly. i.e. from what format/bitrate to what format/bitrate and with/without volume levelling.

thx.

From WMA (various bit rates) to WMA 64k - no volume levelling.

Just doing a send to: Copy and Convert.

wma --> wma conversion

Post by rusty »

Boxall,

I just tested conversion of a 4 minute wma 128 kbps file to 64 kbps wma file and it took 10-15 seconds. I assume it's much slower than that for you. So either:
a) there's something different between our environments
b) the source wma files that you're using are different in some way

Can you e-mail me a sample wma file that is exhibiting this problem?

Will do. I may also test it on another machine just in case.

Where are you sending your file? Local HD or some removable media.

I have tried both.

Conversion slow

I sent the files locally to the C: drive (my preference for testing purposes as it localizes the problem).

More info....

OK on another machine I converted a 10min 96kbps WMA to a 64kbps WMA in 30 secs onto c:\. Not too bad. Now I will test again at home on the same file. Maybe it is because I am trying to convert 150 files that it just feals real slow.

However.......

Testing converting a 96kbps WMA album (8 files) to 64kbps on a Compact Flash card (1.1 USB card reader) took < 3 mins on WMP 10 and over 7:30 with MediaMonkey.

Also when you do a send to why add the destination to the library? Doesn't make sense when the destination could be removable media.

Slowness in wma conversion

Post by rusty »

Moving this to the bug forum for followup (i.e. this won't block the 2.3 release.
