Convert Artwork - Max Resolution [#20181]
It looks like something new added in 5.1 under the Sync Profile > Tagging section is the Max Resolution option under Convert Artwork. I tried this out and I don't think it works correctly or am understanding what this does. I have some artwork that are 2048x2048 .PNG files. I did my sync with Convert Artwork to .JPG with 500px as max resolution. It converted the artwork over to .JPG but it didn't resize it 500px. Is that what the Max Resolution option is supposed to do, convert/resize artwork down to specified max resolution?

Re: Convert Artwork - Max Resolution
I've done some more testing on this. It seems to be working in some scenarios, not so much in others.
- I synced a track with a 512x512 JPG and 600x600 JPG artwork over. I also synced a track with 2048x2048 JPG artwork over. Everything was resized down to 500x500px.
- I synced another track that had 2048x2048 PNG artwork. This was converted over as JPG but was not resized to 500x500.
- Some tracks that I have synced over before enabling the Convert Artwork and Max Resolution options do not get converted nor do they get resized. It appears the sync doesn't recognize what was converted or not.
Re: Convert Artwork - Max Resolution
Is the lack of donwnsizing consistent with file type change (PNG > JPG) for you. Does PNG to PNG also fail?

Re: Convert Artwork - Max Resolution
The other thing that doesn't work is having only Max Resolution selected as it doesn't set a Max Resolution for anything. See Sync Profile Tagging setup below.Kilo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 4:45 pm I've done some more testing on this. It seems to be working in some scenarios, not so much in others.

Please let me know if you need logs for these issues if they cannot be replicated.

Re: Convert Artwork - Max Resolution
Thanks for reporting. I was unable to reproduce the failure to resize from PNG > JPG, but did see the cropping for PNG > PNG myself. Added issues as: https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=20181
Yes, sub-options have no affect if the parent option isn't enabled.

Re: Convert Artwork - Max Resolution
So does this happen only for tracks that were already on the device with artwork and you changed the convert settings _after_ the tracks have been already synced?Kilo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 4:45 pm

Or it does happen also for certain tracks that are not already on the device and convertion silently fails?
If it is the latter, can you please share sample file with us?
Thanks!
Re: Convert Artwork - Max Resolution
Just to clarify for what you quoted, these are two different scenarios from each other. For the tracks already synced on the device, they don't get converted/updated when I change the convert settings after I sync the tracks over and perform another sync. I was thinking it would identify what was converted or not and update on the sync, but it doesn't. I suppose the solution to this is to clear out the sync device target and perform a fresh clean sync with the updated convert settings.Ludek wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 10:10 amSo does this happen only for tracks that were already on the device with artwork and you changed the convert settings _after_ the tracks have been already synced?Kilo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 4:45 pm

For my tracks with the PNG > JPG convert/resize not working, I've since found similar JPG artwork. I don't have the actual PNG artwork since it was automatically found through MMW5 and I just saved what was there. I did try using a test MP3 file and put a 2048x2048 PNG image in for the artwork, but when I synced that over, it both correctly converted and resized the artwork.
I'll retest and check everything out again when 2812 comes out. Thanks for looking into this.
Re: Convert Artwork - Max Resolution [#20181]
I retested in 2817 and it's much improved. I have encountered a few other issues with the Convert Artwork Max Resolution setting set to JPG and 500px during a fresh sync.
- I have one artwork that is 650x354. This was not converted down from 650 to 500.
- I have some other artwork where the width exceeds 500, such as 375x555 and 450x600 and 450x630. These were not converted down to 500.
Re: Convert Artwork - Max Resolution [#20181]
It limits the width to the set limit, not the height.

Re: Convert Artwork - Max Resolution [#20181]
It may be due to some corruption in the image file (as it works for most other images). Please provide the file for which it fails to Support for analysis.

I've submitted a support ticket with one of the affected MP3 files under ticket 6453. Let me know if you need more examples.
