Need Help With <Auto Number:n>

Post by Hexad Tom »

I am trying to rip my CD collection to my PC. I have a large number of CDs with 2 albums on each CD. I want to separate the albums on my PC. Thus, what are tracks 13-24 on the CD need to become file names starting with 01 on the PC. The path mask in the rip format shows <Track#> which yields the track on the CD as the first 2 characters of the file name. I tried replacing <Track#> with <Auto Number> and with <Auto Number:01> and also with <Auto Number:1>. None of these yielded file names starting with "01"-"12"; all resulted in file names starting with either "13"-"24" or "013"-"024".
What do I do in order to produce a result of file names beginning with "01" - "12"?
Thanks,
Tommy

Do you just need to change the filename or also the Track# tag?

There is a script to change the track number in the database so that is not a major problem. Changing the file names one at a time is a pain.

Once the track number has been changed you can change the number in the filename.

Is there a way to do that other than one at a time?

If you use Auto-Increment# on the tracks and then on the same track use Auto-Organize Files you should get it done for the set, not individual tracks.

OK, Thanks. I will try <Auto Organize>.

I looked at the auto-organize function and I am missing how to rename files to change the track number at the beginning of the filename. If I try to do it using <Auto Number>, I have the same problem that I have now in that it doesn't seem to work. My feeble brain needs a concrete example of what a mask should look like to affect the change. Any examples or links would be greatly appreciated.

You'd use <Track#> after you changed the actual track numbers.

Oh, I think I get it now. I'll try it and see if my pea brain is on the right track at last.

The files are created when the ripping occurs. As far as I can tell, there is no way to change track numbers or other properties as ripping happens so by the time the track numbers are changed, the file names have already been set and must be changed in place. I am not understanding how auto-organize can do this.

Also I better understand the <Auto Number:n> function and the n sets the minimum number of digits, not the starting number. Is there some way to set the starting number for this function to something other than 1?
Sorry to be a pest.

You can edit files prior to Ripping including Track#.

You can also do this after Ripping and then use Auto-Organize Files.

No, you can't set the starting number in a Mask.

How do I edit files prior to ripping; the CD is read only?

You can edit read-only files. The changes won't be saved to the CD, but the files can be edited like files on your PC. Then Rip will use that information for both the tags on the Ripped files as well as in the Mask to create the filenames.

I didn't know that. I'll give it a shot to see if I can make it work.
