MMA2 - Thoughts and minor bugs

Post by Andre_H »

Hi @Devs,

i upgraded my devices to MMA2. Wasn't fast enough to prevent my "main device" from upgrade, actually I only wanted to change 2 of my 3 devices, but ... all in then ... ;-)

Minor things/possible bugs:
  • when setting the folder permissions, the screen offers no "ok", just a "skip" button, even if i had set/denied the grants. anything seems to work, it's just a little confusing.
  • Playlist from MMW/DLNA doesn't show in the correct order. i have a few "last added, last played" playlists, none of them are in correct order when I access them via DLNA. However, the synchronized playlists on the devices are correct.
  • on one of my devices i can't enter the "settings=>Library & sync"-Screen. App crash. I could run the sync assistant, sync itself works, just the settings screen chrashes. (as these doesn't occur on my other devices, i won't consider it as a bug, maybe there's something on that tablet. a few automatic logs should be on the way.)

Wishlist:
  • please consider a "de-select all"-button in the homescreen menus. if you don't listen to classical music, podcasts, videos, you have to uncheck all sub-entrys on that categories manually. on all devices.
  • an (optional/additional) grouping of the display "years" by "decades", in the home screen and in the navigation bars. maybe that's my personal feeling, but I'm looking for "music from the 80's" rather than "music from 1983"...
  • scheduled sync! an (optional) automatic sync at specified times would a) really simplify the handling of several MMA devices in the household, and b) especially increase the "wife acceptance factor" a lot! ;-)
  • take a look at the Android app "Hi-Fi Cast". There you can set a "top level music folder" for an DLNA server, and thus, for example, always start within "MMW-Server => playlists" as main level directly, instead of having to select it each time. A clever feature that might be worth checking out? ;-) As above, this could be an optional setting for those who might get use of it.

Thanks for the good work, the new version looks a lot nicer than the old one.
I will update these thread if I notice anything else.

If it's alright, I'll just piggy back off this thread instead of creating a new one. I'll just paste my response to the pinned post above as I re-read the part about feature requests etc.

============================

"Thanks for the massive update guys. I've been using it today and it's mostly working well, I was hesitant as to how it would perform on Android Auto, but it worked flawlessly on AA.

The only real issue I'm having is it's slower to load album art and transition from one screen to another compared to MMA 1.X . (Nokia X20 with Android 13, music files on SD card)
I'm yet to sync it with MMW5 yet, but I'll no doubt do that in the coming days.

I've asked about this before, but might again:
Could the toggle for volume levelling be made available on the Playing screen (alongside the shuffle and repeat toggles)? I toggle it regularly, depending on whether I'm shuffling playlists (On, to account for volume changes) or playing an album in full (Off, to allow the intended flow of the album). So it would be handy to have it on the playing screen instead of having to dig for it in the settings.

Again, thanks guys for all your hard work, and for allowing us to have access to this. It looks tops, and feels a lot like the desktop program.

If I come across any others issues, or situations I'll let you know."

Thanks for the detailed feedback Andre_H.

Re. 'Minor things/possible bugs'
1) I guess you're saying that 'Skip' could be taken to imply that permissions that had been granted wouldn't be applied? We didn't use 'OK' because it could be interpreted by some as 'OK, grant access'. Maybe 'Skip remaining' would help?
2) DLNA playlist order issues: tracked at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19624
3) Sync configuration crash: tracked at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19634 . BTW, what device/OS version does the crash occur on?

Wishlist:
a) De-select all in home screen: probably not worth the effort as this is a one-time config for most people. Maybe it would be nice that you can import/export Home/Sync settings to MM5 Device Profile and then can be easily imported by other devices for quick UI/settings clone?
b) Yes, browsing by decades is planned. Here's the original entry where this is being tracked https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19254 (https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19635)
c) re scheduled sync! This should be covered by https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=11780 and https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=10362
d) Re. setting 'favorite' top-level folders (or any other favorite for that matter), it's kind of like the 'pin it' functionality in MM5 It's planned for the future at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=16339 or you are more thinking something like https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=14606 to set favorite Home Screen page eg. open MMA in player directly?

Re doney6012: Thank you for nice words about MMA 2.0 especially that AA support is better after upgrade.

Re doney6012 lag in swipe actions: This is something that was already reported and we plan optimize UI with each build. If behavior do not get improved after few builds please BUMP the request and if possible give us steps how to find exact spot ;)

Re doney6012 toggle for volume leveling: I see that some users would benefit from that. Added few tweaks and suggestions in https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19636

fyi, the following are fixed in build 1055 which should be available shortly:
2) DLNA playlist order
3) Sync config crash
b) Browsing by decade (incomplete)

Note: We couldn't replicate the sync config crash, but believe that we've fixed it. Can you confirm? If the issue persists, can you please generate a log (and share the log ID here) when you run MMA immediately after it occurs?

Thanks!

Yes, it's just confusing. "Skip remaining" or "Apply no changes" might be clearer

It's an "Lenovo Tab M10 FHD" on Android 10.

Could certainly help other users, for example I have a different home screen on the tablet than on the phones.
But I understand the "effort" argument, and it's clearly not a game breaker.

Can't wait to see it going life ... ;-)

that "pin it" feature sure would do, if we could pin a folder from MMW/UPNP to the homescreen.

Thanks for the reactions. We are excited to see what else is in store for us with MMA!

We posted the update last night, but Google hasn't yet released it. Hopefully soon...
