Hi MediaMonkey,
I can confirm the dreaded "Connecting to WiFi network. Please Wait" still happens today.
Today:
1. a successful sync
2. I remove one song from a playlist on the android app
3. sync doesn't work anymore. MediaMonkey Android app said "Connecting to WiFi network. Please Wait". The wifi was there, I was able to open the server address in browser (http://192.168....:4000) and that showed a json error "JSON:parse..", so the tablet was able to talk to the server somehow.
4. reboot tablet
5. sync worked again. (in the browser on the tablet, accessing http://192.168....:4000 shows the same error as before reboot, so the wifi worked but mediamonkey had a bug)
I looked in the forum and found multiple desparate users noting this error.
Having a tablet I use as dedicated MediaMonkey music player. (MediaMonkey Android 1.4.4.0956 on Android 7.0 )
Laptop with MediaMonkey Windows as Server.
Both in same wifi with Laptop on fixed IP. Sync worked for months.
For me, restarting the Android tablet worked. hth someone.
This sucks though.
best
Leo

You could try with MMA2 as there have been fixes to wi-fi Sync: viewtopic.php?t=103181
