[SOLVED] Import Playlist that MM created
Is it possible to import a playlist from a device that Media Monkey created and then have it point to the master database?
Here is why I ask:
During my last sync to my phone something when wrong and deleted most of my tracks in my playlist on my PC. So my playlist went from 1200+ songs to ~35
Here is my setup:
PC with master database
Devices I sync to:
Android phone
3 usb drives
The usb drives still have the 1200+ song playlist. I've tried importing the playlist to my PC..... It works but it stays linked to the usb drive.
I'm trying to find a way to rebuild this playlist in my master data base without picking through it one track at a time.
I've also tried modifying the m3u file to point at the master database.
Any ideas?

In that scenario you can only edit the Playlist to point to the files on the PC instead of the USB drive.

Re: Import Playlist that MM created
Edit the playlist where? In the m3u file on the thumb drive before import or in media monkey somewhere after import?
Thanks

On the M3U Playlist file, after you copy it to your PC, before you scan it into MediaMonkey.

Re: Import Playlist that MM created
Ya I tried that. It didn't work but I cannot remember exactly why. I want to say it was still referencing the thumb drive or dead links.....That was a few weeks back. I'll try it again and post results
Re: Import Playlist that MM created
No success. I must be doing something wrong.
My master data base on my PC is F:\Music
Here is what I did:
Edited the m3u file on the thumb drive
Changed the path of all files. Such as
from
\Music\AC-DC - Back In Black\08 AC-DC - Have A Drink On Me.mp3
to
F:\Music\AC-DC - Back In Black\08 AC-DC - Have A Drink On Me.mp3
Saved m3u file
Imported into MM through File, Add Rescan
I also imported a different named m3u that was still linked to the thumb drive
Both playlist import into MM
One linked to thumb drive shows songs when you click on the playlist in MM
The one I changed shows no songs when I click on the playlist in MM. Just all blank.

Re: Import Playlist that MM created
Make sure the files are actually at that Path on the F drive.

F:/Music
That is the main database.
Inside are all Artist folders.
In each Artist folder are albumn folders
Inside albums are all songs.
My wife's playlist is still good in MM.
When I click on it in MM all songs show up and they are in F:/Music

Re: Import Playlist that MM created
That's not what the Playlist is showing as you have an Artist - Album folder not Artist\Album folders. As said, the Path on the Playlist needs to point to the file on your PC (exact same Path).

Re: Import Playlist that MM created
I think I see what you are referring to:
Path in m3u file:
F:\Music\AC-DC - Back In Black\08 AC-DC - Have A Drink On Me.mp3
Path in MM database:
F:\Music\AC-DC\Back In Black\AC-DC - Have A Drink On Me.mp3
I've been using MM as long as I can remember. Must be 15 years now. Never had an issue.
This one here might be slightly hateful to fix.
So it looks like " - " can be changed to "\" or space - space replaced with \
And "08 " needs removed or space track number removed
Ok. I think maybe I can use excel with macros but might need to have a buddy code this. Unless there is a converter online....
Playlist was actually ~1800 files. Not interested in rebuilding one at a time.
Thanks for you help

There is no converter for MediaMonkey.

Re: Import Playlist that MM created
I run the same style database.
Don't mind me if I missed the point - I'm still exploring the options of MM but couldn't recreating the playlist on the thumb drive be done the way you need with "Tools>Options>Portable Device Sync>[the device]>Options>File Locations ?
To remove the track number and change other text?

Re: Import Playlist that MM created
If You use Thumb Drive You should use relative path and set that playlists are saved to Root of Thumb So that All relative paths are same no matter of device you put it into.

Re: Import Playlist that MM created
There was no problem for me importing an externally-created playlist. Just use the m3u format, and follow the format MM outputs (when it exports m3u).
The problem I have (sorry for partially hijacking this thread) is that, after successfully importing, if I later update that same playlist externally, MM will not update it even when configured to rescan that folder. I have to delete the imported playlist in MM, then rescan the folder.

Re: Import Playlist that MM created
Hi,
that is by design to avoid importing duplicate playlist.
