Basic help with syncing from MMW to MMA

Post by jjfnk »

Background: I have MMW 4.1.0.1692 and MMA Pro 1.0.4.0233. The MMA program resides on my Samsung Galaxy 4’s internal memory, with my actual mp3’s on the SD card (approximately 3,000). I use a USB connection to transfer tracks from MMW to MMA with no problem. However, on two occasions I lost my playlist on MMA (which apparently resides on internal ram) when I had to have my phone repaired and I’m tired of recreating the playlist on MMA. I am now evaluating how to better set up the relationship between MMA and MMW so as to avoid this problem and make the whole syncing relationship safer and more efficient. I’ve looked through the forum and haven’t quite found the answer to my questions, although maybe you can direct me to specific posts. So, I have the following questions:

1. Should I set up the MMA play list on the sd card so that it is not subject to any issues with the electronics in my phone or when transferring to a future phone?

2. I really want to easily sync MMA with MMW but I have specific requirements and don’t know how to set up the sync to do so. Below is what I would prefer, if possible:

a. Set up my playlist and mp3 tracks to manually sync from MMW to MMA through USB;
b. Set up my sync so that I never delete a mp3 track from MMW even when I delete the track from MMA;
c. Set up MMA playlist so that when I delete a mp3 track from the MMA playlist it will also delete the actual track from MMA sd card, delete the track from the MMW playlist, but never delete the track from the MMW database. (THIS IS VERY CRITICAL.)
d. Set up the sync so that when I add a track to MMW playlist it will add the track to MMA playlist and the track to MMA sd card.

3. Validate that this process works.

I’m sure many of you know how to do this but I just not familiar enough with the process and nomenclature to have confidence that I won’t screw up my large database of mp3’s on MMW on my computer.

Thanks very much for the great help on this forum.

MMA is a beta product which suffers from beta bugs which are discussed in the MMA beta forum including issues with Playlists. Problems in past builds may have been fixed and no longer present.

You should setup Auto-Sync with what you want to sync (you can disable the option to auto-start sync when device is connected) and then just right click on device once connected to start sync. Manually syncing Playlists (or files) through right click > Send To won't get you the file management you're looking for. In the Device Option you have separate settings for sync PC to device and device to PC, setup according to your needs. Auto-Sync will then take care of the details. Back years later with a new problem.

My playlist on MMW was apparently deleted when I moved everything to a new computer.

I still have the playlist on MMA. How can I copy the play list from MMA to MMW. I have the latest versions of MMA and MMW. Also, will the copied playlist from MMA to MMW have a problem finding the tracks on MMW since it's a new computer?

A specific list of actions would be very helpful.

thanks,

Enable Playlist sync on the Sync >> Library tab of the Device Profile (Tools > Options > Portable Device Sync in MMW).

Thank you, Lowlander. I don't seem able to find the playlist sync tab when opening the tabs on MMW as you suggested.

It's not a Tab, it's a single Option in the Device Profile.

Lowlander, is syncing the same as copying the playlist from MMA to MMW?

I want the playlist to be on MMW even if MMA is not connected.

Not entirely. Syncing will copy the files to your device including Playlists (if selected to do so) and also has the ability to sync back from the device.

Thanks, but what I want to do is copy my playlist from device to computer.

If playlist is copied, will it be able to find the files on the computer? If not, how do I fix that?

Hi,
Unless both files and playlists are copied together or playlist is created with files that were already previously copied by MMW then result would be empty playlists.

Will the playlist still show up on MMW after being transferred from MMA, but without seeing the files? If yes, can I have the new playlist that was copied to MMW search for the files on MMW?

You either sync it back, which will match the Playlist with files in the Library or you copy it back (using Explorer) and edit the Playlist file (in any text editor) to update the Paths of the files to the Paths of the files on your PC.
