I'm hoping for some recommendations on how to manage playlist and device. I have a large MMW library of un-rated songs, so what I do is add them to a playlist, sync to device, rate them in MMA as I listen, then sync back to the MMW library. I rate songs with 1 star if I don't want on them on the playlist or device anymore.
Are there some easy ways to either automate the deletion of 1 star rated songs from the playlist and device once I sync back to MMW library, or if not automate what is the best way to remove them from them otherwise? Thanks!

No automated deletion, would be risky, but you can create an AutoPlaylist in MMW with Rating = 1 star as Criteria. Then just select all files listed and Remove, from Library and Computer.

Thanks. But that sounds like then I would have 2 playlists I would need to delete them from though, unless I'm missing something...
Also, I'm not trying to remove from library or computer, I'm just looking for a streamlined way delete songs from the playslist and mobile device after I've rated 1 star in MMA and synced back with MMW.

In that case, the solution wouldn't work.

Hi,
In order to have them removed from device you need to Set MMW/MMA to delete all the tracks not in sync list in order to do so all you existing playlists you sync to Device needs to be Auto Playlists and have Criteria RATING > 1, which is not a problem if all your Playlists are Auto Playlists but if you sync Static playlists than things complicate as you need to create Auto Playlist that Will Contain Criteria RATING > 1 to filter tracks from Static playlist added as second criteria PLAYLIST = <My Static Playlist Name>.

Thanks, I have 2 questions: 1) if the playlist has the criteria of rating >1, would there be a problem with adding unrated tracks to it in MMW? and 2) I do have a static playlist, so in the scenario would I need both the static and auto playlists on my device in MMA?

You can't add individual files to an AutoPlaylist in MMW. It is solely Criteria based. You can sync any combination of Auto and regular Playlists to your device.

OK, maybe I'm not understanding the recommendation then... If the auto play list is supposed to be rating >1, how do I get unrated songs from my MMW library into the playlist to begin with, and then how to have songs with 1 star removed from MMA and the playlist when synced back to MMW. Hopefully that makes sense...Lowlander wrote:You can't add individual files to an AutoPlaylist in MMW. It is solely Criteria based. Re: Help auto delete songs from device and playlist
I understand you want a playlist that has everything in MMW with rating >1 and everything with no rating. All in one playlist on MMW. Is that correct?
If that is correct, then you can use two criteria for the autoplaylist. Under advanced choose Match Any of the following criteria
Rating >= two stars (MMW doesn't seem to have just a > here)
Rating = 0 stars, Unknown
Unfortunately, I don't rate my music so I can't test this, but I believe it will work.
ADDED: It's even simpler, now that I have given it more thought. If I am understanding you, what you actually want is a playlist with everything that is not rated with 1 star (I am assuming you don't use half stars). If so, the autoplaylist crierion is very straightforward. The crierion is just
Rating <> 1 star
That was easier to test and it does work.
