Track # doesn't match file metadata

Post by Smelsela »

Hi there. I am hoping one of you wonderful peeps can help me out with this...

I have recently noticed that with one particular podcast that I have mp3s for, the track # in Mediamonkey does not match the track number that is being updated to the file's metadata in all cases. This seems to work with all the other podcasts that I have, and MOST of the episodes for that podcast are fine, but it looks like 37 files are incorrect. I attempted to use the "tag from filename" since I have the track # as part of the track's filename, and though they are still fine in the MMW server list, the numbers are still wrong in Windows Explorer. I tried manually changing the track #s in Windows Explorer, and that worked so that now the filename and the track # coincide (e.g. Filename include "070" and Track # is 70), but then it wiped out the formatting I prefer in MMW that has leading zeroes. Then I changed it back to 070 in MMW...but it changed the track number in Windows Explorer to #56...huh?

Any ideas on how I can go about fixing this?

Which version of MediaMonkey and what File Type(s)?

It could be that the file has multiple tags for Track# and that MediaMonkey isn't changing them all.

Sorry, should have included that info right off the bat!

MMW version is 4.1.17.1840 and the files are all .mp3. I was unaware that there could be multiple metadata tags... :S

There could, tagging has standards, but anyone can create any number of tags or use multiple standards within a single file. The fact that an old value returns kind of hints at that possibility for me.

Select some files (or one) in MediaMonkey, change the Track#, use File > Advanced Tag Management > Clear ID3v1 and v2 Tags and then File > Advanced Tag Management > Synchronize Tags. Does that give the desired results in both MediaMonkey and Explorer?

Nope. Still mismatched. I even tried using Windows Explorer to remove all the metadata information and create a copy of the file, then deleted the original file and renamed the copy to match the name of the original. The file showed blank metadata. But then when I synched the tags from MMW, it just copied back in the erroneous track #. Any other ideas? I'm assuming this is a problem with the files themselves...is there another software that will strip this information completely?

This isn't the end of the world. Fortunately MMW shows the correct Track # and that's my primary source of information...it's just irking me!
