Monitoring folders and add/rescan is v/slow in 4.1.12.1799

Post by rpsgc »

Like the title says, monitoring folders and the add/rescan function are very slow in the latest build (4.1.12.1799). The problem is not present in the previous build (1798)

Installing 4.1.12.1799 in an SSD makes the process faster but still considerably slower than build 1798 on a regular HDD.

Can replicate it 100% of the time.

(The 4.1.13 Beta build still has 4.1.12.xxxx version number)

EDIT: After some tests it turns out that only monitoring files is slow. Adding files is about the same speed.

I have the same problem while very slow scaning music folder since 4.1.12.1799. MM and music folder are installed on SATA-III and since the last build scaning very slowly, scann e.g. 40 mp3 files - little break - and than scan the next files. Please look into this because i think it's a bug in build 1799.

Thanks, regards Martin

I don't see this (4.1.13). Have you recently run File > Maintain Library with complete optimization? Also what node is selected in the Media Tree (how many files shown) as I did it with no files shown in the Filelisting.

Yes, I have.

Doesn't make a difference.

My library has ~20'000 files, if it matters.

Capture a debug log (step 4b) of this and send the log to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=1&t=341

Sorry, I have to correct myself, in my case it was a test error, I tested 4.1.12 regular versus 4.1.13 debug.

In my case (on 10000 files):
4.1.12 regular: Search and update took 13 seconds
4.1.13 debug: Search and update took 29 seconds
4.1.12 debug: Search and update took 59 seconds

I also checked all changes between 1798 and 1799 and there isn't any change that could have an impact on scanning speed.

So I suppose that in your case it was also a test error or inconsistent results?
Could you please also check the consistency of the results and ensure that in both cases you are using same build types (debug vs regular) for both versions?

Portable MediaMonkey on SSD. Music on 5400RPM HDD. Added ~5000 files to database from the same directory and optimized DB.

Methodology:

- Start MediaMonkey;
- Press "Ins" (the directory with those ~5000 files selected);
- Click "OK".

4.12 -> 3s / 3s / 3s
4.13 -> 1m36s / 1m33s / 1m33s

That's not a typo. Build 1798 takes 3 seconds.

---

Repeated the 3 steps above but with an empty DB.

4.12 -> 26s / 27s / 27s
4.13 -> 29s / 28s / 29s

Conclusion: Only the monitoring files part is very slow. Adding files to the DB is not.

OK,
could you please attach two debug logs (one from 4.12 and the other from 4.13) so that I could compare them to see what is causing the slowdowns?

In both cases please run DbgView prior to MM start so that I can see all messages.

Attach them to the ticket KAR-489-59767 , thanks!

Thank you!

It helped ;-)

Based on your logs I finally found the leak and fixed it, will be included in 4.1.13.1800 (to be posted tomorrow)

Thanks again.
