Problem & Qs on auto conversion
Let me start by saying I understand there there are many formats possible with an extension like Mp4 and Avi ..
My video files are mainly Mp4 and Avi. The majority of these files work well. When I rip my dvds my sw makes mp4 and my Samsung TV and Sony br play them fine. But some that my friends give me just wont play .. i get 'format not supported'.
My question is how can i get those to play correctly. I have tried 'convert format' in mmw to mm4 and may of them still won't play. I would like to have all converted to a format that will play well.
I looked at this page .. http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... figuration .. but it is pretty limited on real instructions.

Re: Problem & Qs on auto conversion
I'm not really sure this works in MediaMonkey. I'm not entirely sure if the problem lies in conversion or that MediaMonkey can't convert to the exact audio/video codec required, but I gave up on getting this to work.

Re: Problem & Qs on auto conversion
I use Plex. It is geared towards Movies and TV Shows, but if that's what you have it is amazing (if you do it right).

Re: Problem & Qs on auto conversion
I use MediaMonkey for music (DLNA playback and Sync), Vodcast downloading (but Plex for playback), Video (Sync (for local on device playback), but Plex for home network (Roku/Chromecast) and off network (online) streaming). Thanks to Roku/Chromecast I no longer use DLNA for video playback.
My problems with MediaMonkey are getting conversion right (Plex does this automatically for any client and so far this mostly works (had DLNA issues with Samsung, but Sony worked great with DLNA and Roku/Chromecast works flawless) and interface as DLNA provides a poor interface, whereas Plex through its clients provides a very rich (Netflix like) interface that is very user friendly (includes options for language tracks and subtitles). Plex also does an amazing job with auto-tagging video (does need to be in Plex defined file-naming and really only works for TV and Movies), but Plex falls seriously short in reading existing tags and it can't tag files (nor is the interface suitable for any serious tagging).

Re: Problem & Qs on auto conversion
Yeah .. it looks like Plex is one of those products that have their own Metadata (keeps saying downloading metadata) which really adds to the amount of time the it takes to bring in the library ...
Man i wish that mm would fix/enhance their auto conversion of video ... i don't worry about a pretty interface .. samsungs dnla clients really suck but sonys works quite well ... but just want to play any video ... If it can play in mmw it should be able to convert .. or so i wish

Re: Problem & Qs on auto conversion
Plex does it in the background and if you follow their naming convention it is effortless.

Re: Problem & Qs on auto conversion
For movies I had title - year which appears to be what they wanted .. it just took a really long time. Not sure I can bring over tv eps as my format is not the same and changing some 18K really doesn't make sense.

Re: Problem & Qs on auto conversion
dtsig: please create support ticket and we can try to find, where the problem is. Could you try to play the files created by MM4 (MP4 with AAC and H264?) and not playable by TV and BR player from MM4 DLNA server and try to play them directly in TV/BR player? I mean e.g. using USB flash drive. This should help us to find out, if the problem is in the file format or in DLNA server. If the file is playable directly, please generate debug log on MM4 side from DLNA playback attempt and attach it to support ticket. Thanks.
