Could you post a screenshot of the options page? Might save us a bit of time.

There are two possible answers. Ensure that the "Original Date" field/tag is visible in your detail view.

1. The automatic update will only occur if the earliest date found by the script is earlier than an already existing date in the "Original Date" tag. This is how your options are set.

2. There was no data found for the selected songs. If this is the case I will need the artist name and song name to troubleshoot.

There is currently no feedback on the form on how many new dates were found when searching by selection, but I could add that in the future.

Can you make it so you can choose to seed Album Artist instead of regular artist?

Elton John - Empty Garden
The record I have selected does not have an Original date
Maybe I'm not using the tool correctly.
My expectations are:
1) I select the song(s) I want the date updated
2) I click Search on the Earliest Date Tool
I expect the tool to then cycle through the selected records and update them with the earliest date found, if the date is empty or the found date is earlier then the one existing.

Here's a screenshot of my MM.

Thanks for your prompt responses.

From the looks of your screenshot, it appears that the script is working as expected. I think the confusion lies in where the earliest date data is actually stored. There are two date fields in the MM database and in the file tags. There is one called "Date" and one called "Original Date". Both can be seen in the properties dialog screenshot below. The script defaults to use the "Original Date" field.

Check the properties dialog of the song in question and my guess is that there is a value for the "Original Date".

If you want the date field to be populated check the option box to "Use 'Date' Field" in the options for the Earliest Date script.

That's all it was. Needed to select Date Field instead of "Original Date".

Thanks for your assistance!!!!!!

First off, thanks for a great add on, it's made my life so much easier.

Now for my question, is there any way of just using the first artist when there are more than one listed, I never seam to get any results if a song has a contributing artist.

Not at this time. I can look at adding that option in a future release.

Hello,

It will be great if we can select which databases to query ... I think about some checkboxes :)

Thank you again.

What's the Search For drop down used for on the interface screen?

Allows for a web search using one of the available search providers, using your default web browser. It was a request from way back. Click on the Artist-Track to use.
