Re: Party mode screwed up my system... help!
use system restore it will replace the system files if the hacker messed up them.
go to the start button click on help and support, on its panel look for the system restore link on the right
side of the panel near the bottom of the center section. click it find the last back up before your party
and restore your system back to that time.
if that does not work then try using the restarting option of last known good version. restart the system press
F5 or F8 before you see the xp logon screen process and just after the dos screen telling you the keys to press to get in to the setup options. then windows should show you a screen with choices on to start windows. move the highlighting color down to the last know good version and press enter windows will find the last version he backed up that did not have any bad system files in and start it.
if you still cant get it working. then go to windows update and get updates for your system find any that microsoft has and download them most the time when looking for updates their servers will find other messed up micosoft system files and replace them. if still not working call that person over and have a policeman there and make them undo their hack with the threat of jail time for being a hacker.
in the usa they can be arrested for that now.
dont' blame monkey for a guest that wanted to hack your system.
don't invite him / her back to your partys, until you get it fixed and any thing they added in cleaned out.
then get your system a desktop lock program where nobody can get by it.

Re: Party mode screwed up my system... help!
Thanks for the quick reply...
Actually, I was right next to him when he did it...
He didn't run anything at all. All he did is minimize MM (running in party mode with password protection ) then opened Firefox. As I saw this... I was in shock. I went to the computer right away, then I noticed the taskbar was gone, task manager was gone and couldn't ALT-TAB...
I'm about 99.9% sure it has to do with MediaMonkey.
Is there a list of registry settings MM changes when it goes into party mode?
Thanks

Re: Party mode screwed up my system... help!
Ok I just figured out how he did it.
When in party mode, the "minimize player" is still available in the "controller bar" (dunno how its called... the place where you have the controller buttons PLAY, PAUSE, etc).
When I click that, it allows users to see the desktop or any open window and by-passing MM's party mode security.
When I click on the desktop, MM dissapears and windows is left in an unusable state (No task manager, no taskbar, no windows menu...) only way for me is to force-reboot.
Is it only me, or can anyone else confirm this?
Thanks.

Re: Party mode screwed up my system... help! [BUG# 5897]
http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=5897 was supposed to have fixed this... but it hasn't.
See a screen shot of the culprit here: http://img25.imageshack.us/i/mmbug.png/
Now... can anyone tell me what registries are affected to restore the task manager?
Thanks

Re: Party mode screwed up my system... help! [BUG# 5897]
Use WIN Ket to get Start menu -> Control Panel -> Task bar & Start Menu and change status of Auto-Hide (no matter if it is enabled or disabled) and apply settings that way you will get Status Bar Reset to defaults after which you can set it as you like.
EDIT: I updated Bug so that this gets covered also.

Re: Party mode screwed up my system... help! [BUG# 5897]
not taskbar... taskmanager... now I can't kill processes anymore.
I've tried these steps found here
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kbase/ ... mePro.html
But somehow it keeps resetting itself. Any ideas?

Then most likely you have Rootkit or some other Virus onboard. I'm telling you that because even MM got minimized in Party Mode as soon as you click on Desktop and use CTRL+ALT+DEL Task Manager will show.
Tip: Check same Registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE just in case.

Re: Party mode screwed up my system... help! [BUG# 5897]
No rootkits. Solution was easier...
answer was in Group policy editor settings.
Had misread instructions "since the policy is Remove Task Manager, by disabling the policy, you are enabling the Task Manager. " so I set it to Disable, and now I have my task manager back.
