Unselected smart playlists are synced to iPod

Postby StriderHiryu » Wed Feb 22, 2017 12:37 pm

Version: 4.1.15.1828

It has taken me over 2 years to figure this out. I have created a number of Smart Playlists. I have organized smart playlists by nesting some inside of another. For example:
[o] Rock 3+
[x] Rock 4+
[x] Rock 5+

In this example, this dynamically builds playlists based on the Genre being "Rock" and the Rating being 3+, 4+, and 5+.

Everything works fine UNTIL I sync with an iPod, regardless of which generation (I have tried 4 different ones). However, I currently am using the last ever made 160gb iPod with a hard drive.

I noticed that the iPod has replicated songs that I never selected by smart playlist. Under the iPod properties, Auto-Sync (--> Device) tab --> Playlists, I selected certain smart playlists. From the example above, the [X] represents a playlist I selected for sync. Rock 4+ and Rock 5+ are nested under Rock 3+. It appears that it is syncing Rock 3+ as well, thus filling up and crashing the iPod (a separate bug).

So, it's syncing playlists that were not selected. It's been doing this for several previous versions as well.

That's by design. Parent Playlists of selected Child Playlists are also synced.

It doesn't make sense then to allow a hierarchical node tree in the sync list, then use all the conventions which imply the parent is NOT synced but a child is. Why bother having a hierarchy if in fact, it is not?

This means that I cannot organize playlists in a nested fashion in the normal MM structure because I cannot selectively sync playlists to a portable device. Doesn't that completely defeat the purpose of a program like MM which doesn't have the flexibility to allow this?

Look at program installers. Imagine if there was a master node called languages... then you select only English but the developers force you to install ALL languages because it was by design. How is this any different?

e.g. MediaMonkey for Android supports hierarchical playlists.
i.e. in this case also parents needs to be synced to keep the proper hierarchy.
