[SOLVED] MMW 4.1.14.1813 Won't Start

Post by joltman »

I'm getting an error in the Windows Event log when I attempt to start MMW 4.1.14.1813. Here's the error:

Code: Select all

Application: MediaMonkey.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: System.ArgumentException
   at System.Drawing.Bitmap.FromResource(IntPtr, System.String)
   at gen_server.UI.updateGUI()
   at UIAction.Start()
   at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart_Context(System.Object)
   at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object, Boolean)
   at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object, Boolean)
   at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object)
   at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()

I'm trying to figure out how to post an attachment.

Install it as a portable version and see how that works ..
Where's the db and ini stored

I installed MMW 4.1.14.1813 to a folder under my USER folder:

C:\Users\myuser\Apps\MediaMonkey

I then started MMW and it did start correctly. I have not pointed the portable version to the DB I have. Maybe I should try that?

It should be noted, that my standard MMW install has its DB located on a shared drive:

\\10.0.0.50\music\MediaMonkey\MM.DB

I have the DB located here so that my wife and I can share the same DB. We never have the DB open at the same time. Only one of us runs MMW at one time.

Is that location still accessible?

Yes. Always has been. I haven't had a chance to point the portable MMW to the same DB yet.

For me this happens on rare occasions. What may "fix" it is to start the unskinned MediaMonkey executable directly, close all tabs but one and leave that on the Now Playing node. Close and start MediaMonkey normally.

I pointed my Portable install to the same DB location. Portable started without issue. I can see my music and playlists, etc.

I'm not sure where to go from here, though.

I saw there was a response, but when I refreshed the forum post, I didn't see it. I'm going to try it now.

I just tried running the "MediaMonkey (non-skinned).exe" and the COM component tried to load (which hasn't been happening on the standard install). But the same thing happened. This was the error in the Event Log:

Code: Select all

Application: MediaMonkey (non-skinned).exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: System.ArgumentException
   at System.Drawing.Bitmap.FromResource(IntPtr, System.String)
   at gen_server.UI.updateGUI()
   at UIAction.Start()
   at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart_Context(System.Object)
   at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object, Boolean)
   at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object, Boolean)
   at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object)
   at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()

Are there any other ideas? Is there a temp folder I can try deleting? Or is the a full purge I can perform and clean re-install? Thank you!

Whelp, a simple uninstall/re-install seems to have fixed my issue. I'm not sure what got screwed up, but once the uninstall was finished, the C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\ folder was completely gone. I'm assuming what screwed up was located in that folder.

Thank you!
