iPod 160gb corruption loop

Post by StriderHiryu »

I've been having a corruption issue for over a year now. Basically, when I sync with MM, it eventually corrupts the database and either:
  • the iPod shows the Apple logo indefinitely during start
  • the iPod gets into an indefinite reboot loop
  • various songs will crash the iPod, resulting into an infinite reboot
  • iTunes reports the iPod is corrupt
  • No songs/playlists appear within the iPod's GUI
  • When MM ejects the iPod (manually or automatically by setting), it reboots on its own, and when it comes back, it shows no songs. Sometimes it also gets stuck on the Apple logo no matter how many reboots.
Please note: this iPod is almost 2 years old now. It's the latest generation with a 160gb HDD.

What I have tried:
1) Restoring the iPod using iTunes.
2) Resyncing with MM.
  • Skip artwork > 300k
  • convert everything to mp3
  • No videos
  • Eject after sync is complete
2) Low level format (Disk volume --> Format --> exFAT).
3) Use YamiPod to fix database. Right now YamiPod shows songs but reports no problems. I end up trying random things to fix it and sometimes it works, but now it doesn't.

I have a rather large collection of songs (>32000) but I only sync a subset that results in a 140gb footprint.

I'm pretty sure the HDD has no problems since the iPods self test (SMART) shows no errors. A Windows low level format also reported no errors. The iPod is in MINT condition.

OS: Windows 10
iPod: 160GB HDD
MM: 4.1.13.1801

What else can I do? My new iPod is basically a brick.

Does this have anything to do with it?

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/13 ... 0&tstart=0

I restarted the iPod in file mode... SELECT+MENU then SELECT+PLAY to get it into file mode. MM then recognized it.

From the properties in MM for the iPod, I deselected half the auto playlists I wanted to originally sync, thus deleting many songs. Upon ejecting the iPod, the reboot loop ceased and it appears to work again.

Hi,
might be the issue.

How many songs you uploaded, more than 32K ?
Does the sync process with MediaMonkey finished flawlessly and all songs were visible by iTunes and on the iPod?
To ensure that it is the iPod issue (and not MediaMonkey) you could sync the same songs using iTunes and compare/test whether it behaves any better?

There have been some issues with large number of files like:

http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=12819
but these were already fixed.
