Slow Sync with 4.1.9 on Windows 10 to iPod Touch 2nd gen

This forum is for reporting bugs in MediaMonkey for Windows 4. Note that version 4 is no longer actively maintained as it has been replaced by version 5.

Slow Sync with 4.1.9 on Windows 10 to iPod Touch 2nd gen

Post by john85 »

My sync has slowed to an unacceptable crawl after upgrading to MediaMonkey 4.1.9.1764 with the following specifics:
PC: Dell XPS 8500 x64-based PC, 12 GB RAM, running Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.10240 Build 10240
iPod Touch 2nd gen 64GB, Model MC011LL, iOS 5.1.1 (9B206)

Sync was fast with previous version before upgrade to 4.1.9.1764.

I completely erased all data and settings on the iPod Touch before starting the sync, as I usually do -- since in the past I have experienced sync issues when I did not do that -- so this was a fresh sync/load onto what amounts to a 'new'/empty iPod configuration.

The slow crawl degenerated to an outright hang on the copying of track #659 out of 1832 (after about 15 hours or so), so I eventually aborted the sync operation.

I am doing on-the-fly auto-conversion of files (all source formats) to AAC (VBR, 100% quality) using the AAC conversion plugin that I purchased along with my 4.x Gold license.

Please let me know if you need further information.

Thanks,
John

P.S. Can/should I downgrade in the short-term to sync my iPod -- since 4.1.9 ultimately hangs and I can't use it to sync?

You should test older versions of MMW installed as Portable.

To use all existing settings just copy MM.DB from normal version see location http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... -ini-files

That way you will have almost identical sync results and it will give us starting point to search why it slowed down for you.

I installed the previous version of MM, 4.1.8.1751 (not as portable), and am no longer experiencing the slowness -- so clearly there was a change between 4.1.8.1751 and 4.1.9.1764 that is severely impacting syncing (possibly auto-conversion) with my configuration.

I am planning to upgrade my device around the end of this year to a new iPod Touch 6th gen -- so I am hoping I will not experience the performance degradation with MM upgrades after that.

In the meantime, after I complete my syncing, I'd be happy to help you determine the root cause of this problem and/or test fixes if you can give me specific instructions for collecting the diagnostic data.

Thanks,
John

I had the same slow/no sync issue with the same ipod touch with 4.19 on Windows 7. Seemed like it was synching really slowly - like hours for 200 songs- but nothing was there on the iPod upon completion. Resolved by downgrading to 4.18.

I didn't have auto conversion. Just a straight synch. Something very wrong with 4.19 relating to this type of iPod touch.

Hi,
could you please capture a debug log (step 4b) and send it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=20&t=69 and put the ticket id here?
1) debug log from 4.1.8 successful sync
2) debug log from 4.1.9 failed sync

The true is that we haven't tested with iOS5, AFAIK we tested only iOS3, iOS6, iOS8, iOS9
and based on your reports it sounds that there is really an issue/regression related to iOS5/iOS7 models.

Thanks for reporting!

Hi, any update on this?

We are beginning the new round of testing (4.1.10) so if you would create the logs for us it would be great to help us to narrow down this problem.

Tracking the issue as http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=12955

I had some troubles downgrading my iTouch5 from iOS9 to iOS7, but other team member has tested 4.1.9.1765 with iPhone 4 powered by iOS 7.1.2 and sync was without issues for him, so we would need to see your logs to be able to move forward...

Thanks!

Hi, any update?

There is still lack of feedback and we are unable replicate the issue, there haven't been a single debug log generated so far for us, so we are unable to fix it without your help.

Could you please try whether the latest MMW build (4.1.10.1778) solves the issue for you: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 55#p417614

If it doesn't solve the issue then could you please capture a debug log (step 4b): http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=20&t=69
1) debug log from 4.1.8 successful sync
2) debug log from 4.1.10 failed sync

Thanks for your time.
