Can confirm. Windows Explorer even stops responding in that situation. However, it's not 100% reproducible. I have no idea why that happens some times but not others.

People use windows and media monkey differently, sometimes I'm not in MM and use explorer to launch mp3's! Whether MM is open or not should be inconsequential.... Is MM Fit for purpose? No in my humble opinion

See .. i'm just the opposite. I play through mmw and don't pursue my music by explorer .. so although it should/could be faster it isn't a big deal

I've tinkered and using the "Prio" piece of software you can set "run as admin" "silently" every time for "all users" ( and the setting stays after reboot)... https://www.prnwatch.com/prio/ :o

Yeah Prio is very "Powerful" piece of Software :)

I want to believe MM is the best product out there! Compared to Groove, I-tunes it is but Plex & Kodi offer features that MM cant touch and are able to handle a "Large" collections. :-?

Please develop MM5 well! To a point where "Basic Usability" such as things like "playing from explorer" work and are fit for purpose :D

Wanna say I'm loving playing with MM 5!!

Can you share some of your observation and what you actually miss in MM?
M0nk3yBoy wrote:and are able to handle a "Large" collections.
Define Large Library? Mine is around 120K and 70% fully tagged correctly, I've found that both PLEX and KODI lacks correct metadata representation and often search online for info that is already available. NOTE I use free PLEX

Isn't that the point of rewriting/remodeling whole application and the main reason why you are all included so early in development?

Are you sure that you are still seeing this with 1830+ ?
I see that Rusty initialy saw this too: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view. ... 838#c47347 but then it worked flawlessly (after MM restart).

Could you please re-test and report? And if it still happens then generate debug log using the DbgView?

Thanks!

Plex struggles with large collections and its inability to read a lot of metadata from the files also limits its usefulness when it comes to music. It also slows down on large movie/TV collections, but handles them beautifully otherwise.

Hi Pavie,

Hope your Monday was Awesome!

Agree that's why were all part of the Full Dev Lifecycle 100%!! Apologies if I came across a rude, I didn't mean to imply anything derogatory :D My background is a long history of Tech... Hardware and Software Support, Development, Management, Senior Management... Tech is my passion!

Rewriting / Remodelling... Hmmmm, sometimes a line needs to be drawn in the sand... Maybe not in MM case (WinAmp?) , lets use Windows as an example... legacy stuff in there is still shocking!!!

There is no one stop shop for media management in my humble opinion, wouldn't it be great if MM was?

I use two apps for Metadata \ Art etc... "MusicBrainz Picard" and "tinyMedia Manager" both sexy as hell! and free (Takes some work to get your head around advanced settings and maybe scripting but when configured they both work like a dream) before adding to any player/server/dbase etc. Even these tools with the power of Discog's in the back ground (1 example) wont find everything...

Plex, free or not, functionality no different as far as I'm aware (maybe private update channel?), It's App licensing on multiplatform devices, or have I missed a biggie? I thought about Lifetime recently as its on offer, Feck the cash cow! I've paid for Gold Lifetime Software / Membership for things to go belly up eventually and regret the purchase...

When you say 120K is that tracks or albums or all media? I recently culled a lot of media from all my libraries (an attempt to go legit), over half of my music alone. My current music library is 49000K tracks. Plex and MM were both fine with double that... I don't use MM for Movies/Tv tbh, Plex looks prettier and doesn't rely on DNLA interface as much, Plex also has Agents... Channels... Available outside my home network (over VPN could use work but hey :) Even Plex relay is okay... I stopped using Kodi, Non-accountability for dodgy 3rd party "App's" not on my watch ;) Although PVR functionality is awesome!

That said MM has a lot of very good functionality like PodCasts, Web Radio, Audiobooks etc... I did go Lifetime but found the Explorer thing to frustrating and got my money back.

As for dream functionality, (Think Couch Potato :) using both USENET and Torrents with Web to Plex add-on from Browser with accurate metadata/lyrics/art...). But legal...

Time is money? All of these things are just tools that enable pleasure/distraction and having to spend time in Forums while very pleasurable in itself to me is Time. I do this for fun and for work... Hope my rant is of some help :)

Cheers
M0nk3yBoy

unable to reproduce the slowness right now .. not sure why the difference but while it works I am happy

NOTE: this does not happen with debug running. trying to figure a way to report it

Monday! What a great week.

If that what you say is true then I was right to ask you for opinion and I certainly haven't thought you implied anything derogatory or rude about MM I just recognized knowledge, expertise and objectivity. So yes there are bugs, yes they should be fixed, yes they will be fixed (at least some till new one pops out) I do not see anything rude.

M0nk3yBoy wrote:Rewriting / Remodelling... Hmmmm, sometimes a line needs to be drawn in the sand... Maybe not in MM case (WinAmp?)
You will need to elaborate that a bit, not sure what are you implying.

M0nk3yBoy wrote:, lets use Windows as an example... legacy stuff in there is still shocking!!!
I would say thank you for that (sfc, netstat, dir /s >dir.txt, ...)
M0nk3yBoy wrote:There is no one stop shop for media management in my humble opinion, wouldn't it be great if MM was?
That is the general idea, but without shop or I'm thinking about iTunes.

M0nk3yBoy wrote:I use two apps for Metadata \ Art etc... I'm not fund of Picard(Prefer MM), but you are right. Thank you for tinyMedia Manager, Completely forgot about that one (Too bad it dosn't run headless). Discog is useful to its extend, but depend on file source (I used it for CD RIPs).

M0nk3yBoy wrote:Plex, free or not, functionality no different as far as I'm aware (maybe private update channel?), It's App licensing on multiplatform devices, or have I missed a biggie? I thought about Lifetime recently as its on offer, Feck the cash cow!
Totally agree, but with internet speeds increasing it is useful.

M0nk3yBoy wrote:I've paid for Gold Lifetime Software / Membership for things to go belly up eventually and regret the purchase...
I never regret the purchases, as I purchase/use only those that pay off one way or another.

M0nk3yBoy wrote:When you say 120K is that tracks or albums or all media?
Music tracks only, have over 600 Purchased Compilation CDs and more than 2k of EP CDs and around 1.5k of LPs (>250 digitized)

M0nk3yBoy wrote:I recently culled a lot of media from all my libraries (an attempt to go legit), over half of my music alone. My current music library is 49000K tracks. Plex and MM were both fine with double that...
Tested plex on my library and browsing music is pain in the ... and lots of work to be done for Compilation CDs like missing artworks data and searching.

M0nk3yBoy wrote:I don't use MM for Movies/TV tbh, Plex looks prettier and doesn't rely on DNLA interface as much, Plex also has Agents... Channels... Available outside my home network (over VPN could use work but hey :) Even Plex relay is okay...
Again I agree, but change is coming.

M0nk3yBoy wrote:I stopped using Kodi, Non-accountability for dodgy 3rd party "App's" not on my watch ;) Although PVR functionality is awesome!
I do not have any issues with third party plugins if they work and you know what you need and how to set them. PVR is best, I had PC based on Kodi, three TV cards (ATi TV Wonder 650) in it so that I can watch one have PIP and record third at same time, TermalTake iMon VFD, ATi Remote wonder II where there is no better on 60" screen.

M0nk3yBoy wrote:That said MM has a lot of very good functionality like PodCasts, Web Radio, Audiobooks etc... I did go Lifetime but found the Explorer thing to frustrating and got my money back.
Now you have teh reason to buy again 8) :D

M0nk3yBoy wrote:As for dream functionality, (Think Couch Potato :) using both USENET and Torrents with Web to Plex add-on from Browser with accurate metadata/lyrics/art...). But legal...
For me (currently) combination is Sonarr, Jdownloader2 (Headless), Plex For TV and Music Videos then CouchPotato, Plex, Kodi for Movies and MM exclusively for Music

Rant? I do not think so, as you said it is your time and opinion which should be respected. Any feedback is good feedback if thought about it seriously.

MM lag after new update

Postby d12_lee » Sun Jun 04, 2017 12:43 pm

Hi all, i have read about this issue but from a post that is over 5+ years old.

My problem is, if a song is playing or has finished in MM, and i double click on a file in the windows explorer, it takes 20 seconds to begin playback. Never had this issue before the update.

PC Specs-
i7 3770 3.4Ghz
8 GB RAM
120GB SSD
2GB Dedicated GFX
Windows 10

Latest version of MM 4.xx

Tried to re-install after removing old install and doing a registry clean-up of all MM entries

It was fixed in version 4.1.15.1829 : http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=12838

Are you sure that you are using 4.1.15.1829 or higher?
