The title says it all.
In the black play window (bottom left of standard view) the track and artist name scrolls across whe it is playing. If there is a foreign character (like an "umlaut") it is replaced with a blank char.
For example, the second O in Motorhead has an umlaut over it (that's two dots to you and me).

I just checked beta 5 of 2.2 and the player showed non traditional characters correctly.
