For MM2 it's MediaMonkey.mdb and for MM3 it's MM.DB.

is there any way to open the new database that is in MM 3 and edit like you could in version 2?

Only way I know of to open the DB in MM2 was to use MS access... MS access can also open .DB files.

But only if the .DB file is a Paradox database. The MM.DB file from MediaMonkey 3 is not a paradox database. It's SQLITE.

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\MM.db

I think it is better to use Windows shortcuts where possible, as you can use those shortcuts everywhere in Windows, be it the file explorer or the command line or a file dialogue. In this case, a typical MM installation stores its database as:
%APPDATA%\Mediamonkey\MM.db
A portable installation stores the DB inside the installation directory, \Portable\MM.db .
