Add a "link to original artwork file" when adding artwork

Post by GD3771730 »

In 'add artwork' dialog, the list of options for 'image location' could be :

- save image to tag (if possible) otherwise save to file folder
- save image to file folder
- link to original file
- save image to tag (if possible) and save to file folder
- save image to tag (if possible) and link to original file

Thank you in advance for taking this into consideration. You will save peta-bytes of storage around the globe !

Best regards

But isn't "Save image to file folder" already a LINK to the file?

No, it isn't. MM4 first copies the original file to a new file with the 'thm' extension. Then it links the music file to this new artwork file. In case of multiple discs of a same album, dispatched in several folders, the thm files are created in each folder. Let's say that you have 20 MB of scanned leaflet pages in a retrospective of 10 discs, then 200 MB of thm are created.

This is actually functionality that was lost from MM3.

There is a discussion on this in the Beta forum as well (I think with official response). I don't follow why this had to be changed either.
