MonkeyTunes is a Digital Audio Control Protocol (DACP) Server for MediaMonkey to allow remote control of your music anywhere in your house. Digital Audio Control Protocol (DACP) is the protocol used by ITunes, except I don't use ITunes, I use MediaMonkey. I originally wrote my own iPhone client called iMonkey but it could never stand up to the features of Apple Remote for Itunes. MonkeyTunes now bridges the gap giving the full power and beauty of the Apple Remote with the power of MediaMonkey! Google Android users are not left out as a customized version of TunesRemote is provided.

The purpose of this program is simple: to allow control of your MediaMonkey from your mobile device with the touch of a finger.

Absolutely. When you browse your collection you simply select a song or album and it will load it into the Now Playing.

There are supposedly DACP client written entirely in Javascript so essentially it should work against MonkeyTunes and run in a browser! I haven't tried it myself yet but I will let you know. As for Windows maybe but Windows Mobile definitely no plans as I think that platform is dying. Although if a web based DACP client will work then all platforms are in the game!

That's why I like the web based solution as anything with a browser is supported. Wawi was a good idea, but very limited.

Thanks to those of you that reported this bug that has been fixed. If a track had no genre it was causing problems. Please download the latest version of the plugin as this bug has been fixed.

Enhancements....

1. Auto-Playlists now show up and you will notice they have a different icon than regular playlists but they only show a Song Count of "1". Rather than dynamically calculating how many tracks the Autoplaylist has which can be an expensive operation. Also I ignore the "Accessible Tracks" auto-playlist because in my 89,000 song collection it just does not perform well to send that much data to the iPhone.

I have fixed a few more issues including sorting tracks in proper order, performance optimizations, and a few bugs users have reported. I have also added to the installer automatic firewall rules to prevent a lot of the problems people have had with Windows Firewall/Defender.

I have received word that Eric Mille's latest version of the RemoteSpeakers plugin for MediaMonkey no longer causes a conflict on Port 3689 with MonkeyTunes! Thanks for those of you that worked to get the issue resolved.

Due to popular demand I have implemented the ability to create playlists dynamically from the Apple Remote. I am not sure how productive this is since it is easier to create playlists in MM itself first. But it has been requested by many so I have implemented it in the latest MonkeyTunes.

Simply go to the Playlists in Apple Remote and press "New". Give the playlist a name and you will see it appear in MM. Then you simply start selecting songs and it adds them to the playlist.

Due to popular demand I added a setting to allow you to never clear the Now Playing list. Anything you select in the Remote app will be appended to the bottom of the Now Playing list. This goes against what the Itunes Remote wants you to do but many users asked for it so I made it a setting.

In your C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\MonkeyTunes\MonkeyTunes.xml

<RespectClearCueCommand>true</RespectClearCueCommand>

Set it to false and restart MM and now it will never clear the cue from the remote app, only append onto the end of the now playing list.

Hi!
When I select a song in a playlist (iPhone Aplle Remote) this playlist always starts with the first song and doesn't play my selected song. Is this a bug?
Second thing - everytime I start MediaMonkey and I use MonkeyTunes - there is no way to exit Mediamonkey without an exception like "MediaMonkey- Audio Library doens't work any more".
