MMA to HEOS

I'm considering buying Denon HEOS wireless speakers. I would like to use an Android tablet store my files and control the speakers. I've read that the HEOS app is abysmal. Can I use MMA instead of the HEOS app? Can it organize the speakers via wireless, as well as sending the files?
Note: my understanding of setting up networks is pretty slim, so I need a solution that is pretty straight foreward.
Thanks.

Hi,
From what I read in HEOS manual it is closely tied to HEOS app. If MMA do Not see Speaker as Casting device then most likely it is not possible.

I see a rising trend not to include chromecast service into device but rather use own app (guess that way is cheaper) , talk to denon first maybe they will enlighten you on how to setup DLNA and be able to simply cast to speaker.

Thanks Peke,
Don't think II'm going to get much help from Denon. Tried their Live Chat and phoning them. Didn't respond either way. They do have some info on DLNA here: https://denon.custhelp.com/app/answers/ ... -with-heos
Thanks again,
Nick

Hi,
if Their statement "In DLNA terms, HEOS would be referred to as a Digital Media Controller (DMC) and a Digital Media Renderer. (DMR)" then you should be able to see HEOS DMR both in Windows explorer -> Network and under MMW (Right Click on Player -> Choose Player) and in MMA under MMA ... -> Cast To.

If not I guess that they needs to explain to you how to setup and use HEOS as Digital Media Renderer. (DMR)

Maybe you can find something useful at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 5ZDgOfXMfr or https://denon.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/114/

Returning to this thread...
I have purchased a Denon Home 350. And I'm still hoping to be able to use MMA as my music source. When I go into "Cast to" in MMA, it doesn't recognize the speaker. Which is what you suspected last year. However Spotify does seem to recognize the speaker with no trouble from an Android device. Also MMW is able to send music with no trouble, from my laptop.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Nick

Spotify may connect to its own App on the device. I can't cast to my Sony speakers on the free Spotify account, but can cast to any non-spotify capable device.

To cast the device will need to support either DLNA or Chromecast, otherwise you can maybe play to it using Bluetooth, and lastly using an aux cable to connect the MMA to your device.

Yes, I was hoping to avoid bluetooth and cables. Oh well, I can send music from MM on my laptop at least.
thanks

Hi,
Denon Home 350 do not support DLNA and never will :( They force using HEOS app and they integrate commercial SDK which they can get revenue from.

DLNA Certification cost and develop "patented hot water" under own branding that no other developers can use is cheaper and force users to buy more of their patented devices.

And from https://usa.denon.com/en/shop/denonhome ... vSubscribe Q&A section most of Answers are NO which lead me that 700 USD Device (sorry 1400 USD for pair) is just ....

I have done similar setup using 2x https://www.jbl.com/bar-series/JBL+BAR+STUDIO.html one https://www.jbl.com/soundbars/JBL+LINK+BAR-.html for a friend in Living room and all is controlled https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... .motosound over BT to all three or chromecast to link bar from any other phone.

EDIT: Also for same friend we are planning to make 4 Speakers setup (Chromecast Group Mode) and control play using MM5 devices in question are https://www.jbl.com/home-audio/LINK+MUS ... home-audio

Sony also has Chromecast/DLNA capable lineup while also having it's own App system as an option. This gives the user the freedom to choose how to use their device as well as the freedom to mix and match devices/manufacturers.

Hi all,
In MMA I cannot cast to my HEOS speaker, the speaker is not visible.
In windows explorer the HEOS speaker shows as a networkplayer.
In MMW I can cast to the HEOS speaker.
I am also using BubleUpnp/Minimserver combi on android, there casting to HEOS is no problem.

Therefore I think the problem lies with MMA.

Anyone a solution?

André
