MMA problem with re-syncing Auto Playlist

I'm having problems getting auto playlists to update properly on sync.

I have created an auto playlist in MMW. Criteria: Rating unknown & limited to 10,000mb total size.
This populates OK on MMW.
I have ticked this playlist (and only this playlist) in my sync to device tab.
I have no other music on MMA.
I auto sync and the whole playlist is sent over to MMA.
I rate the tracks on MMA and then resync to MMW.
The new ratings get picked up OK and are updated in the MMW library.
However its what happens after this that is the problem.
It should now delete the tracks from MMA (because they are all rated) and then update MMA with the newly populated playlist of 10,000mb of unknown tracks.

It doesn't delete any from MMA.
Then it tries to add the new playlist but can't because there is not enough available free space.

I've played around with various setting in the "sync device to pc" tab but can never get it to work.

Are you allowing files to be deleted from the device? I have no problem syncing a random size limited AutoPlaylist. Tracks get removed and new ones synced.
