New Script or New Plugin?

I'm interested in creating something that will add 3 songs, each from a different category/playlist/custom tag value, to an existing playlist and|or current playing list.
However to even begin, I am trying to find out which category this new tool should be. Or perhaps I'm trying to figure out the difference between a plugin and its abilities and a script and its abilities.
Once I have that better understanding, then I will know what questions to ask later.
Additionally, are there tutorials or getting started guides for building scripts and plugins for MediaMonkey?
Note: I am using MediaMonkey 4.1.23.1881
