What are the .alb files that MM device audio-sync puts on Creative ZEN (and possibly all other MTP) devices?

I find these files created with for most (but not all) Artist - Album value pairs and always EDIT: zero length, though Explorer shows content e.g.

This is the way to tell a MTP device 'this set of tracks is an album'. The exact implementation might differ per device, maybe not all of them need it, but definitely many do.

Thanks. Can I config MM to not create them? I don't see such a setting on the device config.

No, I don't think that there's an easy way how to configure it.
