During 4G Ipod Touch (64gb) MM/Computer Crash

Post by dazhen »

Hey All,
I looked pretty hard for some solutions here, but honestly couldn't find anything similar to what I am experiencing. I recently bought a 4th generation 64gb Ipod touch running iOS 6.0.1, with iTunes being the most recent edition. Media Monkey is also the most recent version, gold license. I used to and still can sync my 3rd gen touch (32gb) without any issues. When I try to sync the 4th gen touch, it will get to somewhere around 50 songs, give or take a dozen, and then MM shuts down, followed immediately after by my entire operating system. No error messages/logs/whatever, but the songs are on the ipod. I am running Windows 7 on a samsung with intel i5 core, nvidia graphics. I figure with the newest MM, i've got the most recent plugins, i tried to factory reset the touch, but that didn't do much. I can't tell if this is a Media Monkey issue, or my computer. I'm watching my CPU usage, and it's at 100% for most of the sync, right before it shuts down. Anything else I need to descibe? Any suggestions?
Thanks a bunch

Sounds like memory is used up? Might be too heavy of cpu cycles or the L2 cache is filling up faster then the cpu can use the data to clear it out, i've got simular issue only its done while playing music whole system just crashes and leaves the computer fans and hd running but thats all. i need to clear it by the toggle switch on the power supply unit.

Only thing that seemed to help was clearing out programs that run in background but were not used or needed to be run after bootup. The crash still happens but not as much now, so since your system is crashing too maybe its mem for your cause like it seems to be in mine.

I'm also thinking heat might be part of cause for mine so check that in yours too.

Capture this in a debug log (step 4b and make sure DebugView is set to File > Log File As) and send it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=12&t=69

Thanks for the input rovingcowbow, I had a sneaking suspicion that it wasn't so much Media Monkey as it was my computer. I'll be sure to get that debug log as soon as I can, also, so that can get reviewed. After I posted last night I tried smaller chunks of my music (about 300 songs instead of 1000+), and that sync'd just fine, so I'll try cleaning things up and going over my computer. It has had issues in the past overheating, but that was with video games, and I didn't suppose a sync would be as CPU intensive, but I guess it could be. Thanks again for the prompt help.

Yes, actually a sync uses up a lot of CPU, especially if you are doing auto-conversion of files, it should take up 100% of the cpu.

Your welcome glad you got it working, i suggest you get maxmem from analogx.com and have it help keep your ram from filling up, that might let you do 500 songs at once instead of 300. Also that debug report lowlander asked for can be of help too.

Hey you two.
Here same problem. Im running MM 4.0.7.1511 gold and an iPod 160GB / iPhone 4. I got a rather fast thinkpad with 16GB of ram, win7 x64 and latest iTunes. In my case, mostly iPod makes problem with sync huge batches of tracks (list of over 34GB) which I auto-convert. MM runs as you said on 99% cpu (thread put on high priority) but then the sync freezes and iPod goes from "synchronizing" to "connected". In my case, the script of sync just freezes, MM keeps on playing sound, the whole Laptop keeps on working (and MM process drops afterwards to "normal" <13% CPU load. Along with the freezing come some access violation messages (mediamonkey.exe, f_aac_codec.dll, and ntdll.dll) of which rarely one of them stops sync. Instead, despite of the error warning, syncing keeps on running in the background.
I cannot fix it but by loading smaller amounts of playlists/songs on the iPod. nothing else works.

I'd recommend trying with the latest beta of MediaMonkey 4.1 (from the Beta Forum) and if it still is an issue creating a debug log (step 4b) and sending it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... f=12&t=341

So far no probs, but these were just two lists, 500MB in total. Im gonna put some load now and sync bigger lists to see what happens. Ill send a report as soon as I encounter the problem also with 4.1.0.1629

Send the full debug log (start DBGView, then MediaMonkey, then connect iPod, then sync) to support.

synced 2 times 6-9GB of sound with 4.1.0.1629 portable without any problems. Ill send a report as soon as I run into the problem again. I'll test now 4.1 how many GB are possible to sync in one step, as this was reported to be one possible cause for the freezing in 4.0.7.1511 (also in my case).
thanks for the hint to try the beta :-)

EDIT: just finished loading around 60GB on an ipod 160GB, most of it on-the-fly converting to 128kBit/s without any problems. If you have problems with syncing ipods and iphones, try the beta version first. Solved all my problems here
