I've scanned through all 17 pages of this thread, and gotten some ideas about how to resolve this issue., To be honest though, it's all a bit hard to follow, it's been going on for so long. Here's my situation, hopefully someone can walk me through this:

Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-1535 (Verizon in other words)
Rooted with CleanROM 5.5.1
Running Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean)
64Gb MicroSD card
Using MMA as my primary mobile music player (although I use DoggCatcher for podcasts)

MMW is version 4.1.3.1708
PC is running WIndows 7 64bit

When I plug the phone into the PC, MMW identifies the phone and card backwards. It says it is "scanning" them, I don't believe I've ever seen the "scanning" phase end. During this time, I cannot get info from the phone to load in MMW or even in Windows Explorer. If I attempt to transfer files, sometimes it will begin to process, other times not, and either way an error arises before it finishes, and I am unable to find the files on my phone.

I'm open to any and all solutions, including card reformats, .nomedia files, perhaps Android upgrades if needed, etc. If its just in the settings in the phone or MMW, even better.

And I'm aware I could just use WiFi sync. That is a workaround but not a solution, I'd really like to get this to work via USB.
Thank you.

Reversed memory identification can be solved by renaming them (in Device Profile click on name).

I suggest MMA wifi sync if USB sync doesn't work.

Froklsnt, I have a S3 and use usb sync. SInce the upgrade last week (week before?) i had problems syncing and various other things. I uninstalled MMA and deleted all files from my 64g card. Then re-installed and MMW and MMA have been playing very well since. In fact some things like the lock screen is working excellently now. Not sure the continual "update" worked quite as effectively as it should have. You might give that a try, if you haven't.

That's interesting, dtsig. I wonder if your higher version on android plays a significant role? I've read it suggested that mediaserver causes some of the headaches I'm discussing, and I believe mediaserver is somewhat updated in newer android builds. I will say that my problem isn't recent, it's been intermittently happening the whole time I've had this phone. Still, I'll give a re-install a shot, can't hurt much.

So, I noticed that I had loose files in my /Music/ folder, so I put them in a subfolder, and now its working just fine. Hopefully it lasts, but for now I'm a happy user.

I have the Samsung notebook and purchased Media Monkey pro for it. I have synched several times but media monkey does not recognize any of the music on my card. I can play without any problem with the music player. Can someone in layman's terms explain to me what I can do about that?

I would start by checking the directory with your music in it on your device. If there is a file there called ".nomedia" then that file is preventing the phone's media detector from finding it. Deleting that file would fix that issue, although it does risk bogging your device down as it catalogs that folder.

I'm also having problems with this, but further along. I have everything working, but no matter how I sync (manually or auto) it is trying to sync my entire Music list, when I clearly only checked "Playlists" and "Music" isn't checked.

Hi all.

I have a SanDisk 64GB Ultra MicroSDXC in a Samsung Note 3 Android phone.
I have been experiencing the same problems mentioned here in this thread for a long time.
I would synch and then on disconnect/reconnect, all or part of my synched library on the phone would not be recognized.
The phone would classify them as additional/unknown/yellow content in the capacity bar!
My breaking point was when MMW would no longer recognize my external storage!! When I connected the phone, MMW would show the usual node "PHONENAME-Card", but in the device synch options, it would show the directry structure of my phone's internal memory and the capacity bar would show 24GB instead of 59GB!!! I was going nuts at this point.

I was literally pulling my hair out because my library takes 4 hours to synchronize and I was synchronizing now for many days!

Long story short, formatted to FAT32 from previously being exFat and have not looked back.
My phone now, from the time I connect to my PC, it immediately recognizes my phone library as MM audio content (blue bar) - EVERY TIME & WITHOUT FAIL.
It also takes 10 minutes and 15 seconds to scan the full phone library of 6680 files ("SCANNING..." next to the device name/node).
It takes about 10 seconds from the time I click "auto-sync" to the time it actually starts copying new files.
It takes another 4 minutes to compare my 296 playlists, before it decides whether to synchronize any of them.
And it ALWAYS syncs perfectly - if no files need synching, then no files will be transfered.

In my case, I would recommend going FAT32 first and then try to solve any other problems.
You must also consider that it may be that your card is faulty.
I formatted my microsd card using Acronis Disk Director. You may find other programs that can do the same.

Hope this helps.

PS. REMEMBER... If you cannot access your sdcard via windows explorer while a synch is taking place (explorer not responding for a long time)... open task manager and kill explorer (do not end process tree - just end process) otherwise you will be waiting for 10-15 minutes for things to start moving again. This is an MTP/windows problem and not a MMW problem.

To all those who are having problems synchronizing with MM for Windows using the USB cable... (MTP sync) to EXTERNAL SD card.

1. Make sure your card is recognized in Windows explorer first and that you can open and view the files.
2. Make sure that MMW can see your card (recognized as CARD and not PHONE which is the internal memory).
3. Make sure MMW reports the correct amount of memory.
4. Make sure and double check all your sync settings are correct.
5. If MMW is continuously scanning your card is not a problem - you can still sync.
6. If it is the first time you are syncing, make sure MMW has calculated correctly how many songs are going to be copied.
7. Make sure there is enough room on the card.
8. When a sync has completed, your synced tracks will show as a BLUE bar. Unrecognized data will show up as a YELLOW bar.
9. If you are syncing a second time (disconnect the phone and reconnect it), and if you do NOT see a BLUE bar equal to the number of tracks you already synced, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. To verify this, below the bar, you can click on the first item and it will rotate from MBs, no. of tracks, etc, giving you more information on the recognized tracks that have been previously synced to the phone by MMW. If this number is not what you expect then you have a problem with your CARD!
10. under the card node, there are several nodes. One of them is called Music. When you click on this you will see all RECOGNIZED previously synced tracks.
11. You can try syncing again, but if MMW does not recognize many songs that have already been transfered, it will try to transfer them again... naturally. This is why it reports sometimes that there is not enough room on the card, because it is almost full and it must transfer all the songs again, thinking that they will take additional space! Bottom line... YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE CARD!!! MMW MTP sync is not working smoothly because of a fundamental hardware flaw!

If you are having some of these problems with your new shiny high capacity expensive card, LOL please... save your time.... Try first a smaller test on the internal memory. Get a feel of how things should be working. The internal memory is ALWAYS much faster and more reliable that external microsd cards. You will get a feel for what you should be looking for in a successful sync.
When you are confident, then try with another external card and see if it behaves differently (anything will do get an older smaller card from different company) - check the differences.
Do small test runs that take minutes and NOT hours to complete. Don't waste your time.
When you see a light of hope, in successful syncs, then you can try your problem card again. Try small syncs first. Always disconnect and reconnect the phone after successful sync to see if what went to the phone is recognized in the BLUE bar. If not then you are having problems with the card. If not, then continue until you have all tracks transfered but at least you are now sure of a consistent behaviour. If not then you are having problems with the card.

An external sd card does not have to be formatted in a different filesystem to work. exFAT is usually the file system of choice for a reason. the manufacturer has chosen this fs for a reason. It should be perfect. (In my case I formatted to FAT32 and saw stability in my transfers (Sandisk Ultra 64Gb MicroSDXC I) but my transfer speed over USB went to the garbage at around 3MB/s. This is NOT a solution!) If it does not work with exFAT you have a problem with the CARD!!!

Now, if from what you have read above, you think that maybe there is a problem with your card, and you do not want to believe it because you will have to go through all the trouble of RMA etc, please try to get it through your head. Do not be stubborn like me wasting 3 years trying to get it to work properly. It wil not. If it is failing, you have a problem with the card.
Some final checks would be to check if you have the latest phone upgrade and also check if your phone supports the particualr card (e.g. Note 3 and Note 4 have completely different card support. Note 4 supports much faster transfer rates from the same cards).

So if you have eliminated most other things, then all you are left with is a problem with the card.
Check with the manufacturer. Many companies e.g. Sandisk have huge warranties on their cards. You can easily initiate a RMA request and get a reply and resolution on the same day. After 3 years, this is what I did and sandisk has been more than accommodating.

So bottom line, if you have done all you can and it still does not work, RMA your card and insist on getting some other model - explain this in your RMA request.

PS. I do not cover fake cards above. When you get a new card check it first if it is fake before you start the above tests. There are software available to check this for you e.g. h2testw https://www.raymond.cc/blog/test-and-de ... h-h2testw/
