How diverse?

Post by tinana »

Here's a variation on the "how big is it?" question.

How diverse is your musical taste/collection? (and by that, I mean substantively....you have significant amounts of a particular genre and listen to music from within that genre regularly).

For instance, I like:
lounge/bachelor pad music from the 50's and 60's,
easy listening also from this period, as well as
jazz,
obscure soul and r&b,
funky new orleans
music from 50's and 60's new orleans,
cajun music from the same period,
balkan brass bands (well, balkan anything!),
gypsy (from the balkans and spain),
desi/bollywood/qawwali
crooners
jazz vocals
classic, twangy country
polka
anything on b3 organ
afropop
brazilian, samba, bossa nova, MPB, sambalanco
tango
cuban
musette, guinguette
quebecois traditional, pop
library music
kitsch, camp
outsider music
fado

ok, i know i'm forgetting a few ;^D

(I think I have at least 1000 songs in each of the above categories, and of course in most I have several 1000's).

How about everybody else? (and yes, I am a huuuuuge dork)

91 Genres

Rock
Pop
Country
Soul
Blues
Classical
Seasonal
Big Beat
Alternative
Celtic
Metal
etc. etc.

I'm suprised I've got over 90 (didn't think I had more than 30) genres. Depending on my mood I will listen to most of them.

I have 167 Genres.
I have never set a genre myself, just what is tagged when ripping or importing files into the library.

I find the whole idea of pigeon holing my music to much to cope with!

Is it, RAP, or HipHop, or Gangsta
Is it country, or country rock, or country/western
Is it, classic jazz, cafe jazz, new age jazz
Is Electronica, or Techno, or Dance or Clubtrance
Is it Rock or POP or Rock/Pop

Nope I just can't be bothered :-)
But I guess I will when I run out of things to do with my library - as if!

Same here, listen to all kinds of music, but have very little respect for Genres.

One of my favorite artists say "There are good and bad music, no more, no less"
I like all kinds of good music, from very old one to the latest modern music from all over the world, apart from Genre #2488: Metro Slum ;)

Agree!
Once you block your mind to any particular "type" of music you lose the ability to enjoy all music.
There is some music I can't stomach, but then that same artist will come out with something a bt different and I am in to it.
My music ranges right across the spectrum and makes for an interesting evenings listening when using some of the random scripts.
