Post by rovingcowboy »

i am looking for an album cover for a conductor and his orchestra.
but i have not been able to find any thing online about him.
do any of you remember or have any way of finding information about

"Pepe La Loco and his orchestra" that might be " Le " not " La "

but he was big in the 1950's 60's and possible the 1970's
so i can't understand why there is no information to be found about him.
i have his versions of jungle drums, and madagasgar but i can't find any info.

i got the songs from a mixed artists album on 8 track. called
"ford family of fine muisc " from about 1969 those were car dealership promo tapes.

thanks for any help any of you can be.

Sorry Buddy--Never Heard of him.

I also tried to google him and run him through eBay.

If the guy had even an obscure 45 or EP, he would show up on eBay or Google, really.

I wonder if there is a typo there.

nope no typo in it only the la or le one i mentioned.

the guy was big. i have atleast 5 songs of his well ones his orchesrta played and he conducted. i got them from that ford motor company dealship free hand out tape. and they put nobody but the best on them.

got all kinds of preformers on them from chet atkins to smokey robinson, and the boston pops to Pepe la loco.
every big name that was out in the 20 years prior to when they made them tapes. maybe he was big in the 1940's and 1950's and not the 1960's ?

but i can't find anything out about him? i wonder if it was a fake name by someone else? but i did find jungle drums was listed as his. so it can't be a fake name.? maybe he was only scratching the surface here in the usa. and he might have been huge in mexico and south america?

how about it anyone from down south remember him? maybe your grand parents remember him or if it is a fake name and they know his real name?

this seems strange how does a guy just disapear off the earth without a trace of any record of his life?

If the only reference to the guy is from the Ford promo tape, I bet that Pepe La Loco is a 'nom de guerre' for an established artist. His real name probably couldn't be used due to contractual reasons. Artie Shaw or Sidney Bechet shows up a number of times on Allmusic.com for 'Jungle Drums'. Compare the other tracks or listen to samples if you can find them.

see that's what i thought too.

but the trouble started when i found a web site a few weeks back? maybe months back when i first started looking for him.

i was reading the content of that site i found by looking for one of the names of songs i have listed as his. i can't find the same page again it was on some one's personel fan page and i think they removed it now.

but it said jungle drums was originaly played by pepe la loco..

now since it is not online or i can't find it again. i am thinking maybe they found they were in error. ? but it was just a site with text and lots of text about almost every one. i'll give it another try to find that site again maybe they are up but moved to a new url. i'll have to try all the search engines as all that music dot com does not have him either.?

did a search for more of his songs.

i found one song that was the exact match for the one i have.

"machtio " found it on allmusic.com

checked out the guy that did that one.

he gave his entire libriay to the UNT (university of north texas)
but i found in the wikine?? online encly. that he wrote the song machito

and had many latin style songs and they were all noticabley his style.

since i have 8 of the songs by pepe la loco. and they all sound like the one machtio song preview online. it has to be this guy i found using a fake name.

it has to be " Stan Kenton and his orchestra " under the fake " Pepe la loco "
if you go searching for the song " Machito " on the all music site make sure you change the search filter to songs.

or you will get the singer by that name.. which is also the singer that stan kenton had sing most of his latin songs.?

which would make sense on him writing a song by that singers name for that singer.

it's funny you look for weeks and weeks. then one little thing connects all the dots. 8)

Cowboy, I think you've already found what you were looking for, but in case you still have a doubt, I just found a few tracks by a percussionist named Pepe Dominguin on a compilation called "Wild Stereo Drums". I don't know if it's the same guy, but just a thought. (Good music, too!)

thanks i don't know where you found those songs at but i only found 2 by him on allmusic dot com and they were listed as being recorded in the 1990's

and it did not sound the same as what i have, thanks for looking.

i been looking for 3 years since i put him in the computer trying to find out about him. but never asked for help until this post.

all the sites should have had something up about him if anyone knew him since i been running him threw their search filters for that long.

but nobody has posted anything so i asked for help. and it does make sense that it is this stan kenton. but i got a email from the archive site of his library and they said they did not know this pepe name and could not say for sure if it was him.
but it sounds like him it matchs too close in what info goes between the two names.
and i can't find anything out about this pepe only on the one series of tapes.

so. ? if it acts like a duck and quack's like a duck it must be a duck?

i think i found a fake name he used and did not tell anyone?
maybe because the songs were on a promo tape and he only got paid once for them?

i don't know but the sound is his style.

Alexander Von Pitamic The South German Philharmonic might also be Süddeutsche Philharmonie. Lots of goggle hits, depends on what info you require.
