Anyone know about metadata?

Post by Gobshite »

Microsoft have just stopped supporting metadata for Windows media player so I decided to download mediamonkey and low and behold the metadata doesn't work for that either, it's a dead link, has everyone bailed out of metadata support?

Microsoft have not stopped supporting metadata for Windows Media Player. They have stopped supporting it for Windows Media Center - a completely different product and one they are probably aiming to stop supporting altogether - it isn't part of Windows 10 for example. They will also stop supporting metadata for WMP on Windows 7 only, but that is just an early ending of support for these programs as all support for Windows 7 ends next year. Support for WMP metadata on 8, 8.1, and 10 continues. But Groove Music and MIcrosoft Movies and TV are designed for Windows 8 on and if one insists on using Microsoft products they are probably what one should be using (if you are using 7, remember that support ends soon, and you'll probably need to consider moving up). And Peke and Lowlander, I suspect what Gobshite might be referring to is that WMP will pull metadata rather automatically from the web from a Microsoft source. To Gobshite, every music program supports metadata, most just do it better than WMP.
