Device neutral database?

Post by lindholm » Wed Jun 13, 2018 11:20 pm

How do I create a database/song repository that is device neutral?
I want to be able to copy my music/MM database to any drive but
everything I try has the drive letter/[Drive Name] in the file path.

It stores the drive device ID in the song so this really isn't possible for the music
Where's the db and ini stored

A Portable Install of MediaMonkey should do the trick.

Lowlander ... will that also address the music?

Maybe not. It would work best with single drive moving around PCs.

However this can fix the database after moving database and files: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=63823&hilit=update+ ... n+database

The portable installation only puts the database in the installation folder.
Song files are still referenced by their absolute path

Hi, portable works fine for me,
it sounds like issue: https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view ... 423#c31441 that has been already fixed 6 years ago.

I've done some test (for sure).

1) Installed MM as portable to external HDD (drive I:\ on PC1) and scanned music files from I:\ on PC1 (the music was already pre-copied on the I:\)
2) Connected the HDD to PC2 (recognized as E:\), run MM from the portable folder and trying to play files
=> all files are playable

So I cannot replicate your issue, have you tested the same way?
