Moving files to another drive

I need to move all my music (400 GB of FLAC files) from D: to G:

The safest way to do this in Windows 7 seems to be to select C:\Users\MyUserName, right click on Music, click Properties - Location tab- Move . . . and select G: as the destination. This moves the files and Windows knows where the new library is (symbolic links are updated).

I assume Media Monkey will lose track of these files, yet the only real change is the drive letter. What is the quickest and simplest way to let Media Monkey know of the change (anything manual is a problem with this many files).

Thanks for any clarifications!

Let MM move the files using Auto-Organize under Tools. They will be moved as you want then and MM will not lose track of them.

Hi,
If you do not want to undergo waiting for Auto Organize you can try these steps.
1. Close MMW (Make sure that MMW do not monitor New HDD)
2. COPY (Not move) Your files in One Go to new HDD
3. Rename your original folder so that MMW can't find old Path (eg. c:\Music\ -> C:\1Music)
4. Start MMW
5. Select all Tracks from Renamed folder (Music\Location\HDD (c:)\Music\ALL
6. Use File -> Locate Moved Missing Tracks -> And point to New HDD path
7. Press OK
8. MMW should Find all the tracks and Show Them in Moved list
9. Clicking on OK Will update your Library and all tracks should be under New location.

NOTE: Please just in case Anything goes wrong before you start this Backup c:\Users\[YOURUSERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\MM.DB to a safe place so that you can undo any library changes.

Hi - I tried exactly these steps and it does not seem to be working, even though it looks like it worked.

I had my files on Old-Computer under E:\audio\music. I have built a new computer, New-Computer. I shared the drive from Old to New. I copied all the tracks from Old to D:\audio\music on New. I copied my old MM database to the new system and put it in place. When I launched MM, it came up with all the tracks and info correwctly, greyed out as I expected. I used "Locate Moved/missing Files", pointed to D:\audio\music, and ran that. When it finished, all the tracks were accessible-white again, not greyed out. But when I try to play them, MM says "Files from the following locations are currently inaccessible. (gives no locations). Please reconnect the drive.., (etc)."

I checked the file locations in the properties and each one has the correct location in the file path and name - D:\audio\music. I know the tracks are there, I can see and play them in other places. Any suggestions?

I really wish there were one standard, easy way to do this, maybe with a wizard. It happens a lot more then you seem to think. People get new computers all the time and I always groan when I think about moving MM.

Thanks.

The easy solution is: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... n+database

Do the files play if you open them through the My Computer node in the Media Tree?
