How can I recover info from older DB file backup

Post by MagGyver »

Hi all,

I'm running the latest MMW 4.xx and somewhere along the way, I've discovered that a couple of playlists I've curated over the years are missing a lot of entries. I'm not sure how it happened, whether it was something within MMW or in one of the other apps I use in conjunction...but I have a backup of my MM.DB file that was created back in 2014 and I have a feeling the playlists would have the correct count in there. Is there any way to retrieve the contents of a playlist with a .DB file like this? I tried using a couple of different DB viewer apps but I didn't get very far. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, as I have a DJ gig coming up that would rely heavily on one of the playlists in question.

Thanks.

When files are removed (for a variety of reasons) from the Library they're removed from the Playlists as well.

You could open this old DB (replace current with the old one) in MediaMonkey and then export the Playlists. The switch back to the new DB and import (File > Add/Rescan Files) the Playlists (note the Paths to the files need to be correct for your current setup).

Thanks, I temporarily replaced my DB file and was able to export the playlists in question. Strangely, the files themselves are not missing - only their presence in these playlists. Still not sure how it could have happened, but since I work with several audio programs along with MM, I can't be sure it was MM that caused the discrepancy.

Playlists only reference a file's path. They don't remove or manipulate the files themselves.

Yes, I know this. But somehow the references to certain files disappeared from the playlists. One playlist in particular had over 200 tracks in it at one point, but then I opened the playlist one day and found there were only 39. I thought of a track that I knew had lived in that playlist and was able to locate it in my MM library, but it had gone missing from the playlist.
