Can't play .mp3 after upgrade [#13332]

Post by Mojonaut »

Hi

Last night when running MM I was offered an upgrade, I took it and went from 4.1.9.1764 to 4.1.12.1798

All my files appear in the library but when I try and play them MM just scrolls past all the .mp3 until it finds a non-mp3 file which it will then play with no issues. When that track is finished it repeats this action skipping over all the .mp3's.. Everything is in the correct directory, and in the track properties the correct drive and path is shown.

I've re-scanned files to library, mp3 is checked in the file types window (I've tried unchecking, rechecking to no avail)

The only way to get back normal operation was to do a system restore and now everything is working as it should but on the previous version.

Anyone come across this issue before?

Running WinXP

thanks.
Ronni

Found it...no need to system restore,
I´ve tried other betas and rc builds of the 4.1.12 version and all of them does the same scrolling thing..no mp3 playback at all
under win xp

LAST build that works fine with win xp is 4.1.11.1783

download from here

Ah its not just me, thought I may have been overlooking something obvious.

Thanks for the link, maybe its assumed no one uses XP any more :)

Hi,
Just tested and 4.1.12 played in WinXP mode on Win 7 Ultimate x64.
Do you have latest WMP installed?

So I'm not alone. I thought my PC (Win Server 2003) had something corrupted.

I installed in_mpg123.dll and it returned MP3 capability: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... le/View/99

Me, too. Same symptoms, same platform (XP).

Is this just an XP issue? I'm now afraid to install it to my Win7 systems.

Can I can just install the previous version over this non-functional latest one and be back on track?

Reply to myself: "Yes, you can simply install the previous version over the latest and all seems to be well again."

It seems to be an XP issue, Win 10 has no issues.

This isn't the only program upgrade that doesn't play well with XP. Because Microsoft is no longer supporting and upgrading XP, when programs upgrade they may contain components that are necessary to work with the internet, for example, but which are no longer compatible with XP (and never will be, unfortunately for XP users). Going back to a previous version of MM might work for a while as a short term solution, but what happens when MM needs to be upgraded to sync with iOS 10? That's probably not going to work with XP, however much the MM developers want it to. XP has been a remarkably stable operating system for a long time (at least 15 years), but it is not, I'm afraid, going to be viable much longer. But in all this, remember that the US military is apparantly still running on 8" floppies.

I tried your solution, to install the alternate MP3 input pluging DLL, and in fact, MM will now play MP3s. And syncing my phone seems faster and more stable. However, MM hangs frequently, especially when trying to play podcasts. I guess I'll have to go back to the previous version until such time as these issues get resolved.

As yarguy mentioned, this may be a sign of the end of XP support. I sure hope not. I'm not ready yet.

Thanks for the heads-up. Haven't stress-tested it yet, but the obvious problems I was having seem to be relieved.
