Why are tag fields duplicating after editing them in MM? [#15070]

Post by theta_wave »

Using 1741 here. I open up a track's property window (track here being FLAC), modify the artist field and press "OK". When I open up the same track using mp3tag, I immediately notice that the Date information is duplicated. Instead of showing one year, it displays two. This is why I am loathe to use mediamonkey as a tag editor, as it constantly screws up my FLAC tags.

See: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... erties/4.0

For compatibility reasons MM write the year tag twice, once to YEAR and once to DATE for ogg/flac tracks.

I would be fine if that was the case, but that is not what MM is doing. It is creating duplicate YEAR fields in my FLAC tags (see pic in OP). I don't see a separate DATE field in MM-edited FLAC tags. All I see are duplicate YEAR fields, no DATE fields created after modifying any field in MM.

mp3tag maps tags to a user-readable format, so it probably just interprets the "DATE" field as YEAR. Or maybe it sees it as YEAR because the string in DATE tag is only 4 characters.

Regardless I would hardly call this "constantly screws up my FLAC tags".

I am struggling with this as well. If you check in Foobar2000, you can see that the date field for every album tagged in MM with 2014 contains 2014;2014
This is annoying! Regardless of what reason MM may have for doing this, it should be possible to choose in settings.

I'm having the same "problem".

For MP3 files there is the option to add

[MP3Tagging]
DisableFrames=TDRC;TDOR;
EnableFrames=TYER;TDAT;TORY;

to MediaMonkey.ini. Is there something similiar for FLAC files?
