Then it may have some corruption preventing the volume analysis.

Ok, I deleted it and all seems well, when I tried the analysis again and it wouldn't do anything does that mean it's done and ready to go to the Ipod?

You can see this by checking Track Volume field (in Properties or as column in Filelisting). If it has a value you're good to go.
