Apple lossless format?

Post by markeh »

I want to put Apple lossless music tracks on my iPod, currently stored as flac on my PC in my MM library.

I just downloaded Monkey Codec Pack 2.0.2.17 and installed it, with the intention of having MM convert when syncing from FLAC to Apple Lossless. But its not clear what format to choose - m4a? m4b? other?

I would check the documentation for the codec pack, if there was any....

Any info? thnx....

More details -

I converted a flac file (17.1 mb) to "m4a" using MM and the new codec. Same file converted to "m4a" by dbpoweramp.

The MM conversion is 7.6mb m4a file (much smaller), reported as compressed (AAC).

The one converted by dbpoweramp is 17.37mb m4a, reported as lossless (perfect)

Both have a m4a suffix. So I clearly don't get it. Is there as way to convert FLAC to Apple lossless using MM???

thnx,

It would seem it was added to the AAC plugin (thus would be expected in the MM plugin): http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=4797

Well, I guess I don't understand this. The codec pack (Monkey Codec Pack 2.0.2.17) is installed.

If I choose aac in MM and do a conversion, I still have a compressed (5mb) file with an aac suffix.
What choice for a file lossless file??

Not sure either, from the Mantis entry it would seem to be an option, but I didn't see one.

They haven't released the build with the ALAC encoding feature yet. I guess they are probably waiting for beta testing alongside 4.1.

After the codec pack addon has been installed

Options, Autoconversion rule, To Format M4A, Customize, ALAC
