Feature? Re-Organize Library on hard drive

Post by Meetloaf13 »

Is it possible to have MM reorganize the files on my hard-drive? I'd like the ability to move all of my music in to groupings by genre and then artist/album. I have a proliferation of freelance music tracks that make it a painful experience to browse my music from say an FTP connection or mediaserver due to my artist count reaching 1000+.

I wasn't sure if this is available right now. Is it?

Thanks!

Could you use an "Auto-Organize" rule to do this? It can be found in: Tools > Options > Library (tree node) > Auto-Organize (tree node)

You'd need to create a rule similar to the one below:
...\Music\<Genre>\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Track#> - <Artist> - <Title>

So your music would be first sorted by Genre, then the Artist, then Album.

Hmmm, I think that would be exactly what I want to do =]

I'll have to mess with it when I get home, unless Hamachi wakes up and stops being so slow, then I can remote in, run that and report back.

Thanks for the swift response. I'll let you know how it goes.

That was PERFECT.

Just a note, in case anyone else happens to run into this, if you want to add the track number to your track names, use '<Track#:2>' as your Track tag, it will then have leading zeros, and your tracks will sort correctly.

Thanks!
