I knew this day would come...
As I've ripped tracks on my laptop, I've moved them to an external HDD,
then added them to the Virtual CD (VCD) so I can listen away from my desk.
But now, I have more files in VCD than my local HDD can hold.
How to manage the VCD size and scope?
I've created an AutoPlaylist for files with Played # >= 1
and then use Properties to Remove them from the VCD,
but is there a way I can do this automagically?
My other concern is that my usual practice has been to
just Select All tracks on the external HDD in a genre
and click the Add to VCD.
Since the Monkey scans and only adds tracks not already present,
I've not had to pay close attention.
If I rip files to D:\Add\<Genre>\<Artist>\,
then Add to VCD,
then Move to F:\<Genre>\<Artist>\,
can the Monkey keep up with that?
And when I'm listening away from the external HDD,
how will my autoplaylists handle tracks not on the VCD?
Mostly this is just thinking out loud.

Managing Virtual CD size

I only have few Tips For You:
1. If You Use VCD Frequently Extend your AutoPlaylist Criteria by adding Status -> Is Accessable. This way Autoplaylist will look at tracks are either Physicaly Available (Local and External) or in VCD.
2. While ripping better steps will be RIP->MOVE->ADD2VCD instead RIP->ADD2VCD->MOVE but both ways should work.
3. If your External HDD is on USB2.0 Try To Rip Directly to External HDD It Will SpeedUP Process of Ripping.
If I understand you correctly you need feature that will for example remove track from Virtual CD if Played# >=1 or something similar?

The Feature would be nice, maybe as 'Clean Up' option for VCD, wherePeke wrote:I only have few Tips For You:

Thanks! Good thought. Will do.

the user defines what criteria qualify for removal. Just a thought.
For now the Playlist where Played # >=1 does the trick.
I'm trying now to figure out if RockBox (the OS on my Archos) can/does
update either the timestamp or # played fields. That would be really keen.
Thanks for the input!

Post it to Wishlist Forum, so we can see what others have to say about it and so that it can be included in WishList.
